Right now I live in a pretty high crime neighborhood outside of Boston. I just quit my job. I don't have any relationships tying me down here. I have absolutely no preferences other than must be affordable and have jobs for me--I have an associates in health and human services and a certificate in veterinarian assisting (would rather not put that to use though because people do NOT know how to treat animals).

Well just my experience. I find Minnesota a pretty good state. When I lived in the twin cities there was a lot of services but that was decades ago. No idea what it’s like now. Have heard there’s shortages but that’s true all over. But like the boson area there’s winter to deal with.

Albuquerque New Mexico had some great services I was there and homeless at the turn of the century. So again I don’t know how it is now, except I’ve read in the papers violence has really gone up in Albuquerque so that’s a real concern

Dallas I didn’t like at all

Austin tx was great. Started out homeless and ended up in S.E.C. 8 housing with good pdoc that stabilized me. Was a yo yo at times though. The thing though is the heat. It gets very hot often over 100 in the summer. And that seems be be getting worse and though austin is liberal the government is very right leaning wanting to close services deny lgbtq their rights. So you might have to keep that in mind

Now I’m in south Minnesota but I had family to move in with. Outside the twin cities housing and resources are stretched thin and hard to get. I had to wait three years to get a pdoc. I like my doctors but I already had Medicare and applied for Medicare right away. I was lucky after mum died to get into a senior high rise. I’m liking it here very much but I was stable when I moved here and the GP just kept me on the same meds. I don’t have a therapist so I can’t say how that is.

It’s not much but those are my experiences if it helps.

Michigan is good. Huge shortage everywhere so plenty of jobs. Housing varies but plenty of options

I live in Florida. You do NOT to move here. I love it here, but cost of housing is completely insane.

Trying to stay within MSF guidelines about politics. I believe the ultraconservative bent of politics within the state makes national news often enough I don't need to go into much detail. Let's just say if you are not old, conservative, white and male you might not feel welcome.

Vermont? All I hear is how laid back Vermont is. Weather is balanced...snowy winters and warm summers. Nice places in Northern New York and Maine too. Out west there's Washington State.

Don't move to Maine--it's basically the Florida of the North unless you stay in the York-Portland area in that case you might as well stay in MA.

I've heard good things about upstate NY and Rhode Island as long as you're not in the Providence area.

Yoik!! I didn't know that. I always equated Maine with easy-going maritimers...Nova Scotian-like in that relaxed way. Things have changed all right. Whoever thought New Hampshire had a dark side the way it does. Certainly not in the tourist brochures. Pennsylvania too...pretty place but harbors some pretty sketchy mindsets. I think I would actually recommend moving to Canada these days. No joke.
Thanks for this!

I left So. Calif 16 years ago. It was bad then & worse now. I could have moved anywhere I wanted at the time. Retired & sepatated & no family. Ended up in Ky (horse country). Turned out a perfect fit for me.....but not for everyone. I hate cities & people & love the country surrounded by nature & small town people. It is best to find a place where your values fit in. Makes life more plesant

I don’t mean it’s as bad as like South Boston, Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, etc. but if you drive around, half the year (when the weather ain’t crap) it’s all day trippers from Boston or part time residents from Southern NE/NY. Same with here (lakes region). I live in a town with no lakes though, only a couple ponds, so we really don’t have the tourists. Just the people who can’t afford to do anything the Bostonians and New Yorkers can (But the alcohol is much cheaper!!!!!)

The rest of Maine is extremely rural. Lots of logging.
