Um, if we have family secrets and we post them here they aren't secrets anymore.

Idk. I got the idea from a reddit page "people tell their family secrets."

I think you guys are rich too haha. I see you post the prices of some of your clothes and I’m like “damn, I’d have to get that jacket from Savers!”
I don’t care about spilling the beans here. Some of the beans. Just the kidney beans. I’ll save the pinto beans for therapy. We never talked about my dad’s substance use issues and other blatant mental illness, but that was more an elephant in the room than a secret. My eating disorder is kind of a secret from the family (obviously I’m underweight at times but I don’t think everyone or even anyone knows why and I think drug use is assumed). When my parents were together my mom cheated on my dad. Met a dude on some online cribbage game, saved up in secret, and flew out to England to screw him. I think my dad knew, but didn’t really care. He joked about it.

Not exactly a secret but my grandad was married before he met and married my grandma, his first wife died (I don’t even know what of) so his first family was then raised by other relatives so he could get on with his life and make a new family, which he did. It sounds horrendous now but socially men didn’t bring their families up back then.
Anyhow I think on some level there was shame because it was never talked about although the other family were on the periphery of my mum and her siblings life. My mum was fond of her half sister but they weren’t close. As a child I didn’t know who all these people were (who by then had their own families) and it was all a bit confusing. But I think I picked up enough not to ask. Only mum left now sadly but I wish for her sake the shame and secrecy hadn’t been there, I wonder if it left her with guilt. These things about our parents we only appreciate when we’re well grown ourselves. I think being secretly rich is a nice kind of secret. Maybe your mom’s tucked a bit away for her future. |

We do.
I made a mistake telling one to a good friend of mine and she assumes it’s something she needs to bring up in a group of friends. So I don’t share anything with anyone if I can help it |
