The worst happened this morning. I turned the coffee pot on and it wasn't alive. Didn't work. Nothing. Nada. I can't get alive without coffee! I saw on my couch reserved to stop at circle k before work and then I thought, boil water! So I boiled water and held the filter over the pot. Worked like a charm!!!!

Ray there are also little things of coffee that look like tea bags for just such emergencies. I keep a box like that on hand at all times. It's also handy for just needing a single cup of coffee.

We tend not to throw out our "parts" and old pots, etc. My husband got us a new coffee grinder for Christmas like I instructed him When the coffee pot breaks and it was complicated, loud, and I wasn't going near it! Well, it broke last week and I wanted to go right out and get a better one but he surprised me by telling me he hadn't thrown out the old one. We were forever breaking the glass pots too so we always had an extra and often a whole extra coffee maker. Now we don't have room for stuff we don't "need" so don't have as many extras.

mmmm coffee. For a while it was so regular for me to stop in at
Tim Horton's drive through on my way to work that if I stopped to buy gas (Attached to the Tim Hortons) when I went in to pay for the gas, they'd have my coffee order waiting.

Glad you still had your morning coffee.

I usually keep instant on hand but didn't have any so it was panic time. I thought of boiling water thing because years ago I read a thing in Maxim about how to make coffee when you're camping. They said bring a pair of panty hose and boils some water, put coffee in the hose, dangle the hose over a cup, and poor the boiling water into it. Thank goodness for Maxim hahaha!!!!!!!

(Why men would have pantyhose to take camping is beyond me!)

Notthemama I discovered those individual coffee things when our power was out. We had gas, so I could cook, but could not use any electrical appliances for a couple of weeks. We lived in the country at the time, and those ice storms bring down the power lines all the time.

I wouldn't have been clever enough to boil the water and run it through the coffee. Who can think while caffine deprived? I supposed necessity IS the mother of invention. I bow to Ray's ability to solve her problem.

Hahahaha you should have seen me unplugging it and plugging it back in, turning it off and on, trying another outlet. Sitting on my couch, resigned to having no coffee, looking at the laptop and then ding ding ding! Boil water!!!! Hahaha, you are correct, necessity IS the mother of invention. The lady at Walgreens when I bought my new pot today had a laugh. When the coffee pot breaks
