I gave up coffee...........too %#@&#! expensive.......I chug a Dew every morning .........probably not the healthiest thing in the world, but most depressed people dont put health concerns as a top priority

my mom and dad bought some expensive coffe makers over the years and ended up going back to the Mr. Coffee 19.99 basic model

besides the coffee beans make the taste....

I agree that the coffee beans make the flavor so I recommend a mr. coffee or one of the other brands that any retail store may carry.

Oh I feel your pain, My coffemaker was killed by the coffee gods as well, now is a good time to get a new coffeemaker thought because of all the back to school deals, I got a new one it's a mr.coffee I got it for 10 dollars at walmart, it's one that only makes two cups of coffee at a time but it's nice.

hey trippin mic'
i am sure there is trouble brewing among the coffee gods. my own machine has recently passed as well.
we celebrated its wake on a new Capresso brand machine from amazon. it brews coffee and froths hot low fat milk to make fake cappucinos. this is apparently the yuppie standard bearer of todays coffee machines. too expensive and it wears out every 5 years like clock work. i am on my third capresso machine right now. but it makes a good cuppa joe.
i try to overcompensate for this excess on my part by buying my beans at costco. there are some good cheaper coffee brewers there if you are interested in a good bargain.
good luck with your oily problem. i recommend that until you get a new machine you should go to a starbucks and draw blood from the best-looking barrista you can.

My sister, who is a coffee nut, gave me her expensive Bunn coffeemaker. It's just okay. It actually keeps a reservoir of hot water in it till you make coffee, and so it's very fast. But I'm concerned with chemical buildup in the reservoir, and I think I'm going to go back to an inexpensive Mr. Coffee, or some such.

if the chemical buildup you are worried about is called calcification it can be fixed with white vinegar or tablets you add to the water to clean the machine. i have only seen bunn machines in diners and restaurant supply shops.
diner coffee has never been great. diner owners always have to watch the bottom line to make out. but their coffee is very hot so you can't taste much of it. thats why it needs so much milk.

I go with the decaf coffee, but found a deal on the gevalia internet site.....I got 2 coffees & 2 teas & there 12 cup coffee maker for 19.99.....couldn't beat that deal.....it's supposed to be an 89.00 coffee maker....but it isn't any different than any of the 12 cup makers at Walmart for just over $20......just looks prettier with the black & chrome.

The key is the coffee & I have to say, I am impresed with the gevalia coffee. It is the best tasting coffee/decaf I have ever tasted. I have been brewing the whole 12 cups & making iced coffee out of it....using the flavored creamers & either the columbian or raspberry chocolate coffee's......it is a delight to drink & I don't usually like coffee at all.

COFFEE HELP !
Life does not exist without coffee.

As a frog of little brain, I can't recommend a good coffee maker. However, Folgers (and maybe others) have "tea bags" for coffee. At least that's what they look like.

For everyone's protection (including myself) I always keep some of them on hand. You never know when the coffee maker is going to kick the bucket.

As Silversparrow implied, sometimes the best appliances are the chepeast.

Since I moved before my wife could join me, I had to load up on Wal-Mart brand items...cheap toaster, microwave, coffee maker, etc. Yet now we're starting to think of keeping that stuff and chucking our old things.

Anyway, I like buying cheap because then I don't have the anxiety of making sure it's always in working order.

the big issue with coffee makers is the waters brewing temperature and its consistency of performance.
the mr coffee machines tend to brew a little bit colder than some of the fanciers models and thus don't get all of the delicious oils out of the roasted ground beans.
i suspect that this isn't a big deal for most people using inexpensive coffee blends. it would be hard to tell the difference there.
however if your coffees are fancy then if you waste flavor you also waste money.

coffee is my severest vice since i can't drink with my meds. i drink too much coffee and got to watch out for GIRD and when it happens i take prilosec.
i am ashamed to say i know too much about this subject. :P
