The neighbors across the street have a new cat and it keeps coming in our cat door and I keep finding it in our house. I don't want their cat in our house. It is "marking" territory in our house, and eating my cats' food. What can I do? I don't want to close our cat door because then my cats can't get in and out during the day. (They are kept inside at night with the cat door closed.)
Any ideas for how to keep this cat out of my house? Is there a special cat door that will let in only my cats? Is there something I can do to the invading cat to repel it? Do I need to give my cats assertiveness training so they do more than just hiss at this cat?

i know there is a cat door you can get with a matching collar and the collar has a release for the cat flap
http://www.smarthome.com/6191c.html its pricey but you might be able to find a cheaper version

I believe there IS a pet door that is operated remotely by a signal on the cat's collar, letting only your cat in, but I bet it is very expensive!
My three cats are inside/outide also, but I leave the garage door up a few inches for them to come and go. Last night i heard the most chilling howls coming from my garage...Another cat had ventured in and my cats were "asserting" themselves. This rarely happens because they do seem to guard their territory. This cat that is coming in thru the pet door...Do you think he is an un-neutered male? Marking his territory sounds like it. I wouldn't know what to do in this situation. Patty |

Wow! I've never heard of this happening before. Maybe it's because I live in the middle of nowhere. Anyway, what has been suggested is probably the best thing to. Also, let your neighbor know of this problem if you haven't already, because I'm sure they don't want the cat going in your house, just as much as you don't want it to.

Maybe you could try using safe cat repellants on the perimeter of your yard, so it doesn't come near the door? I know you can buy cat repellant at pet stores, but I've also heard of using orange peels or planting rue.
