My father was 95 years old and led a happy, full life. He'd been feeling miserable, emotionally and physically for the last 6 or 7 weeks. He had dementia among other problems, and deteriorated pretty quickly. I find that I'm more relieved than sad, though I was sad when he was in so much pain, and when he didn't communicate much anymore. I wonder if I will regret not grieving so much because of the circumstances. When my Mom died years ago, I didn't grieve, and I suffered a lot because of that. But this is different because of my Dad's age.

I am sorry for your loss. I think I understand about the not grieving so much. my dad is 80 and so ready to go. his memory is not good but not diagnosed with alzhiemers or dementia per se but we all see it. I know with all his health issues he is ready and has said so many many times. I don't think my grief will be as bad knowing how he feels. we are here for you hon anytime.

I am so sorry about your dad. Wow..95. Regardless of the person's age, we do still need to work through that grieving process.

My father died at the age of 98 some years ago too. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and had short-term memory loss, but his personality was still the same. But in his last months, I would guess, his problems were more than he could take emotionally, and he deteriorated quite a bit. I did not understand it at the time but I think I do now. I have not written about it before. Not that this will help you much, rain...
