My friend George was one of the most likable people I've ever known. He was from New York and I never found out why he and his wife lived here.
George had a joke or laugh to share with me every single time I saw him. He called me "Youngin". "Hey youngin, where you been? I haven't seen you in a while." He had a hard life. His wife was always sick and to be honest, I never heard her say a kind word to him. They had no car so George walked every where he went. He was always running errands for other people and he had a smile for everyone. Tuesday night my friend Cher saw George on the elevator. He was coughing so much he couldn't even talk. Wednesday morning he was found on his deck. Cher found out yesterday and called and said to come and see her when I got home. We are stunned. George was so vital, so energetic, so alive and now he's gone. He was a good man. I miss him already. ![]()

I am so sorry for your loss, I just lost my grandmother a week from today (she had alzheimer's and dementia) and I'm still upset. I just hope you get through this rough time in your life, and be strong. Love, Jessica

(((((((Jan)))))))) Have you ever seen the cheesy movie "An Affair to Remember"? The original one, with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr? I'll watch anything Cary Grant's in, no matter how cheesy, but this one, even for someone from America's Dairyland, is at the top of the Cheese-o-Meter.
![]() Deborah Kerr has this line that has always struck me, though. It sends the Cheese-o-Meter through the ceiling, but at the same time, it's always resonated with me. Her line is, "Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories." I know it is not even remotely close to being the same as having the person in your life, but you have memories of George to keep you warm. Cherish them. You've been through so much lately -- I'm so sorry things keep piling up. You're in my thoughts. Love, Candy |

I talked to one one of the maintenance men who found George. He said George had two children who wanted nothing to do with him. How his poor heart must have ached, but he always had a joke and a smile every day. I am trying to find out if there will be a service, but so far, nothing. Rumor has it that there might be a service here in the activities room. If not, I might ask if I can give a short eulogy and say a prayer with those who would want to attend. Thank you so very much for writing and for caring. I have a lot of heartaches right now and your love and caring is so very appreciated. Love and hugs, Jan

Thank you each and every one. I am a young person living in a building that normally houses elderly people. Why do the really lovely, good ones have to die? I guess I'm not a lovely, good one, because I'm still here! (George would have liked that joke.) Hugs to each of you, Jan ![]()
