What do you think happens after a person dies? Please be respectful in people's opinions on this topic. Do you ever feel the presence of a loved one that has passed on?

We will never know. As rude as that sounds, it's justifiably true.

There are some interesting research reports that claim that the brain knows that the body is dead.
I do believe that there is a heaven but even if there isn't, we won't have any worries/suffering, etc. That sounds very peaceful. |

I have no idea and I've given up wondering for now. Sometimes I feel like my parents are with me, but I'm also skeptical that I just tell myself that for comfort.

I believe in heaven so I think eventually i will be reunited with my loved ones who have passed. We might not be a family in heaven but I feel we will have some sort of relationship. It comforts me knowing that someday I will be reunited with my mom and dad and pets. I have never actually felt their presence but I have gotten a few signs that they might be around.

![]() Also, years ago, I lost a feline friend who actually belonged to my boyfriend at the time. But she was my baby too (my current avatar too). After she passed, I swear I felt her little paws walking on me, like she used to do. I don't think I was dreaming; I think it was her spirit or soul "walking" on me. ![]() I visit a friend's grave now & then, and I "feel" his presence, like he knows I'm there. And that he "hears" me. Maybe none of this is true, but it gives me comfort and is what I believe. I don't believe in heaven/hell.....or God. And I believe a soul can have "unfinished business" so they stick around in this world until ready to cross over...wherever that may be. In a nutshell, I believe death is the beginning of another place.

I think we do ultimately move on to a "higher plane" and we will have consciousness at some point. I am a Christian, so I believe those who die as Christians will be with the Lord. I go along with the seeing a light at the end of a tunnel reports and feeling the presence of loved ones.
I have not seen dead loved ones, but I have had significant, comforting dreams about them soon after they have died. I know people who have seen loved ones, though, and have talked to them. ![]() It will be good, I think. ![]() |

I asked my grandmother this question when I was about 10 years old. My interest had been piqued because my great aunt had just died. Gram said to me"It must be really great because no one ever comes back to tell us about it!" Gram was a very devoted Christian woman who entertained ideas f reincarnation. That was 48 years ago. He words have always stuck with me.

Personally, I have no idea what happens after death.
I had a dream about my great grandmother, whom I've only met once right before she died. Several months after, I had a dream about riding on a train with her. We didn't speak or have any conversation, but I knew we were riding together somewhere. We got off at a stop. Without speaking, I looked back at her and she gave a nod, almost signifying that this was where we part and we walked in opposite directions. My grandmother and mother cried when I told them about this dream. They said she was my guardian angel after that. I love the idea that some end up watching over us and keeping us safe. |

I don't think any of us truly know, and I certainly don't pretend to. It's great to have faith, and at the end of the day Christians, who truly believe, are going to die happiest. Why? Because even if there is nothing after life, they will die believing there is.
I guess I am agnostic, but I don't really like to label myself in that way. I believe that Heaven is a real possibility. I also believe that there being nothing after death is a real possibility. I wish I knew, because this question has and always will haunt me. I consider myself more of a theorist, someone who enjoys different theories but doesn't just believe in one. For instance, I read about a forum of Buddhism that I really liked. Apparently, in this particular religion I read about, when you die we all go to a "Hell" of sorts. It's a cleansing of the soul. And while there is no time in the afterlife, you are there for a period of time. After that, it is decided by your works on Earth whether you are sent back as someone new, or you get your golden ticket to heaven. Now, I don't really believe this to be true but if I were going to believe in something, it'd probably be that. Simply because I do like the idea of reincarnation. Another theory I read that I really got a kick out of, was that when you are dying and you see the "light at the end of the tunnel", it's actually you passing through the birth canal and being born into your new life. I thought that was a pretty cool thought. Again, it's not very practical, but fun to consider. I try to be open-minded, and I truly just don't know what happens after death. Sadly, I will probably never know. We don't remember anything before we are born, and we probably won't after our death. I wish I knew, though. |

I don't believe anything happens, that's it, like a computer being shut down.

I think that it's a physical end. but this is calibrated by the limits of our current knowledge. Whilst I cannot see how consciousness could survive the process of your atoms becoming new matter, I also cannot entirely rule out that it may be possible, for reasons yet to be discovered.

I believe that everything goes in cycles. For example our body returns to the earth and may end up providing fertility to new life and our spirit returns to its source (God if you're religious) and may return to physical life in a different form (reincarnation if you will).

I think we cannot know for sure unless we study and or experience it ourselves. This book is in audio form and it is free - no subscription needed. It talks about what life is, death, after death and rebirth. If this sounds of interest it is here
