Hi Friends,
I'm struggling to remain patient with some residual foot problems. As some of you may remember I have had surgery on my feet/ankle the last four summers. The good news is that my podiatrist says I don't need any surgery this year. I am suffering from Sinus Tarsi Syndrome, related to my broken ankle two years ago. I am also having pain related to the removal of a neuroma last summer. Both of these issues are on my right foot/ankle. It could really be a lot worse, but I have gained so much weight as a result of these continuing issues. Thanks for listening. EJ ![]() |

Just wanted to show my support to you in this situation.
![]() I've also gained weight due to my chronic pain conditions that have got worse over the past few years. It isn't helped by the depression, which may partly be because of it too I guess, and leads me to eat more. My only suggestions are to try and find exercise that doesn't exacerbate the pain. Maybe ask your dr what they can suggest to help you in this. |

I sorry you are having such a problem with your foot/ankle.
I worked for a podiatrist and didn't know what Sinus Tarsi Syndrome was, ![]() Do you know what caused yours? Did you twist your ankle at one time, or fracture something? When I googled it, it suggest all sorts of things, ice, rest, etc..... but not surgery, or was it "just" the neuroma that you had the surgery on? Like that isn't enough? One of the exercises I saw in the google artical I read was a "wobble board". Wobble boards are used to strenghth all the muscles around the ankle/foot. I've seen a few people using them while I was doing PT over the past month for my shoulder. Did you get physical therapy for it, or what was your treatment? I've worked in doctors offices for a lot of years, from chiropractors, to family practice Osteopathic doc to hemotology and oncology....and podiatrist, 2 in the same office really. They both had different ways to treat the different problems. I sure hope you can find some relief, and don't beat yourself up too much over weight gain, there are a lot of small, skinny folks who have foot problems too. You hang in there. ![]() |

Thanks everyone for your supportive responses to my post.
Anna342, Thank you for sharing about your weight gain from chronic pain conditions and depression. My favorite form of exercise is walking, but your post has got me thinking about what else I could do in the meantime. Thank you. Heygimm, What a livewire you are. Welcome to PC! I had no idea we had a foot professional on PC. My Sinus Tarsi Syndrome was caused by the surgery that was done to put my fractured right ankle back together. The dog I didn't want, that my husband insisted on rescuing, ran around my ankles with her lead, then took off, and I went down like a felled tree. My current podiatrist is saying that the bone was reattached at the wrong point -- either too long, or too short, and this is the cause of the problem. That surgery took place in the summer of 2007. One of the screws that they used to stabilize the ankle started sticking out this year. Fortunately, the bone has healed so it is superfluous to keeping things together, but it is upsetting to look down at my painful foot and see the screw protuding out under my skin. Last summer (2008) I had a neuroma also in the right foot removed. Evidently the neuroma stump is what is inflamed now. I won't even mention the stuff done on my left foot, since after surgery on that foot in the summer of 2005, 2006 and 2008, all issues on that foot have been resolved. I had physical therapy after my ankle surgery in 2006. Jan, Echoes, Christina and Bebop, Thank you for your supportive posts as well. It is comforting to know so many people care. ![]() EJ |
