Hi Friends,

Out of the blue my husband has started having a bloating problem. He is almost 70. It is causing him great distress. We have been to the doctor, but it doesn't seem to be clearing up.

Has anyone else had this problem, or know someone who has?

Thanks,

EJ

You checked any med side affects? He hasn't started any new vitamins or anything? Changed his eating/drinking habits?

Hi Perna,

Thank you for the excellent link. I will check into it.

I checked out WebMD earlier this week. Stomach cancer was one possibility, which scared me. Husband is going back to the doctor on Monday.

I hope he gets better soon! Has he changed his diet recently? Maybe a new food or drink did it?

Hi EJ,

Hubby needs to see a gastroenterologist asap. He or she will know exactly what to he. He will probably start with some meds to ease the discomfort and then do some tests, like an endoscopy and maybe a colonoscopy. Medicine has improved so much that they are not nearly as painful or uncomfortable as they used to be.

I always tend to think first of gluten intolerance/celiac disease because one of my sons has that...

It is a disease that gets progressively worse over time, so many people aren't diagnosed with it until they are older. I knew someone in his 70s who was diagnosed with it, removed gluten from his diet, and felt 100% better.

I hope it's something simple and not too serious.

I'm a little concerned at this point, about the possibility of small intestine cancer. Doctor gave him an echo-cardiogram today to rule out any heart isues. He has been having a hard time breathing, along with the bloating issue for about a month now.

I'm trying not to be worried sick about him.

One more thought (gallbladder or gallstones) - my husband is having another attack from his and bloating is one of the symptoms he suffers from.
- along with nausea and severe stomach / back pain.

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry I left you all hanging. I moved over to the Spiritual Support Forum with this issue.

Husband was hospitalized on Tuesday for tests by the cardiologist, to whom he was referred.

He was released from the hospital on Thursday.

Based on all the tests he needs open heart surgery. He is scheduled for an angiogram Tuesday morning at a hospital up in Kansas City. It is a standard pre-op procedure for open heart surgery.

Hopefully all the driving won't kill me. The trip to the best hospitals are 1-1/2 hours each way.

Thanks everyone who responded to this post ~

EJ
