Hi there, I was wondering if anyone here ever had this procedure, and how did you make out??
I found a good site, University of Pittsburg Medical School, I know I could read on, and I have another appt. to talk my fears over before having this in office procedure.
I have developed fluid, having a narrow ear canal on my left side, has contributed to this, doc says if I do not do this soon I may lose my hearing in that ear, but I also risk of damage to the eardrum from this tubing, either way I have to get this fixed, eh?
So if anyone has had this or know of someone and can share some info. I would appreciate it so very much.
Gee, there is always something going wrong Need "ear tube" into eardrum
Thanks in advance,

DE

hmm... this sounds similar to the kids that get lots of ear infections and need to get tubes in thier ears, they make 2 tiny slits and put in a special tube so it drains the infection. As far as I know after some time the tubes are removed. I don't know if yours will be left in or not. Maybe you want to look this up on WebMD.com?

Thanks so very much for your reply Need "ear tube" into eardrum
Yes, this mostly related to children with chronic infections, my nephew was one of these kids but my ex-sister-in-law, had refused it, this was almost 16 years ago, he is now 20, and fortunately got rid of this problem when he was a kid still.
Mine so far is not ruled as an infection, but doc says the fluid build up may eventually cause hearing loss in this ear that has a narrow ear canal, people, not all, and even my dog was born with a narrow left ear canal, this mal formation causes problems.
I'm tossing this around, but am convinced like the doc said, "do not let this go too much longer" it is important to have this procedure. . . damn, it is always something Need "ear tube" into eardrum
Thanks again, and if anyone else can add to this thread I would be most appreciative.

Sincerely,
DE

Hey dark I just had this done last November - it was a simple procedure and didn't hurt after at all. I have not had an ear infection since - I would get them about every other month.

Hope this helps.

I bursted my ear drum from the pressure of the fluid in my ear. Better to get the tubes I think. From what I've heard, it's a relatively simple procedure. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies, Karen and Wantoheal,
Hearing this (no pun intended) has helped a lot to put me at ease Need "ear tube" into eardrum
So far, no infection, but I am now convinced to get this done, eardrum problem, hearing loss, geesh, kind of says, "stop playing around, just do it, DE"
I've never been a "baby" when it comes to pain, just was having the fear of something going wrong with the procedure, but the doc's nurse said this is a common thing these days, and quick procedure . . . so I guess when I see the doc in April, I'll plan on it cause the build up is stuffing up my sinus, and this time CAT scan showed sinus is clear, soooooooo it's the fluid buildup in the ear.
Oh, I can't tell you how your replies and good thoughts have made me feel more positive towards this, thanks so very much.
Anyone, I'm still open for more experiences shared here, thanks in advance Need "ear tube" into eardrum

Sincerely,
DE

Finally had consult with my ENT, turns out instead of an ear tube, he is going to do a different procedure, but basically helps the way tubing does, he'll make a teeny incision in the eardrum, vaccum the fluid and it is suppose to heal itself soon after.
May help the sinus blockage I'm feeling, but he found a cyst in the left sinus (I think the upper one,the size of a grape up there, on the CAT scan,he said there are times they heal themselves, if not there goes another procedure Need "ear tube" into eardrum

But I rather get that done after the ear thingy, and for once have clear breathing again. . . I'm not giving up Need "ear tube" into eardrum

Thanks for your replies Need "ear tube" into eardrum

Sincerely,
DE

I know, even just one blockage, is robbing me of oxygen, and has made me so tired, and spacey, ha!ha!

Thanks
