Hi,
I have had severe headaches which turn into migrains for at least the past month. I had to go to the ER a few weeks ago cause was loosing vision in my right eye and shaking uncontrollably. Anyways, my primary doc. was out this week and so I saw another doc. who I have seen a few times before and he said that this is not an easy case. I am on many medications, and 2 of them help with migrains, depakote and neurontin. He told me I need to go to PT. Has anyone gone to PT for this before? What should I expect. I saw him Monday and don't go till Wednesday...and everyday is worse. I have tried some over-the-counter things, but have been told to be careful because of all the medication I am on. Not even Ice packs and cold washcloths haven't helped. Any suggestions??? He isn't going to give me medication and that is ok with me, but I need some relief. Have had one since 3:30 pm Wednesday so almost 20.5 hours. I don't want to complain too much about this. There are worse things that could be wrong. Just migraines are debilitating and I am even wearing my sunglasses in the place I live at times. I actually just got done about a month and a half ago maybe for my back and now I have to go back again, I am really embarrased cause I have been there for a lot of things over 3 years. They are really nice to me, I just don't want them to think anything bad about me. Thanks for listening and any feedback would be great. Hugs, Jen

I have and you have nothing to be worried about. It really helps, especially if it is tension or migraine. They are professionals and care about your health.

Have you seen a neurologist for your migraines?

No the doc. said the next step would be to see a neurologist if the PT doesn't help. In the end of January I had a MRI on my head because I was having severe migraines while in the psych unit and was vomiting and couldn't even get out of bed...but nothing showed up. They didn't understand and get why I was having them and I kept telling them it was because they were taking me off effexor too fast to get me on a MAOI...oh man withdrawls from Effexor are the WORST...but now am off the MAOI. So am not sure what is causing all this.
I woke up this morning with a slight headache, nothing I can't handle, but getting worse every 30 min. or so. Jen

I used to get terrible headaches, and going to a chiropractor REALLY helped, and pretty quickly, actually. I hope you feel better. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm pretty sure the PT can help (and I've yet to find a neurologist that does anything but brain scans for headaches, and then seeing "nothing" tells you there's nothing he can do....esp now that you have empty pockets from all the non-treatment. Sorry, my bad.
I see a PT all the time, and part of it is for migraines. Neck tension, TMJD (jaw joint dysfunction) etc .... they work on you for that like they work on you for your back...and it could be your back causing part of it too. ![]() ![]()

Seeing nothing IS doing something. It is ruling out certain causes. But I can see how it feels like "nothing".

Thanks for everyone's input and support.
This weekend has been a terrible Migraine weekend. I am ok for a little while and then boom it hits me and it hurts so bad. I put ice on my head and lay down. But just about an hour ago I woke up and was able to feel relief. Then i went to the kitchen and just about collapsed cause my knees were colapsing, and then when i would hold something to drink i had to hold it with both hands in order not to spill it. I don't remember ever having this before. The migraine is back so am going to put some more ice on and lay back down...i just hope that it's not something more serious. Thanks again, Jen

Hi Jen, does PT mean psychotherapy or physical therapy? I think both could be helpful in different situations. I don't have migraines but I do have TMJ disorder and my TMJ dentist employs a physical therapist who is specialized just in TMJ. I would like to try this out next time I have a flare up. I have also found that my TMJ gets worse with stress and anxiety, and psychotherapy can help me learn techniques to relax. I don't know if it is the same for migraines, but if your doc thinks that PT can help, it seems like it can't hurt to give it a try. I hope you can get some relief very soon. If what you mean by PT is physical therapy, and you get that treatment, I would be very interested to hear what it was like and if it helped. Good luck.

It means Physical Therapy. I am seeing a therapist now and she knows about the headaches.
I went to the ER yesterday cause it was just too much to take...had blood work and CT scan and shots...everything came back fine. Now I start PT on wed. Thanks, jen
