I posted a trigger warning on this cause some details are very gross.

I have to start by saying that I am very embarressed by this. It makes me feel ugly.

I have re-occuring groin cysts. Boils really. The alternate from one side to the other. Over time they have incresed in size and frequency thus causing me a tremendous amount of pain. Well, I am dealing with yet another one at this time. So painful I cant walk straight. It has awoken me from a sound sleep and I am in so much pain, I could just throw up (sorry, I know its gross).

I have been to the DR several times. My treatment has ranged from instructions for soaking for 10 minutes in hot water every hour to having them lanced. Despite this, they still re-occur. I was told after seeing a speacialist that this type of thing is very common in women but not talked about because it is very embarressing (really?).

I am very anxious right now because the pain is so bad. I have taken 3 Advil and about 20 minutes ago I soaked in the tub for about 10 minutes. I am waiting for the Advil to provide some relief. It's 4:30 am and I have to be in 2 hours to get the children ready for school. How can I do this when I cant even walk right? I keep thinking that one of these times I will get an infection and it will get in my blood and something bad is going to happen. I'm scared.

I am really tired. I cant sleep. The pain is awful. Thanks for listening.

Jen

Hi!
I have a few questions and a couple of comments regarding this.

First of all..I don't believe that it is a common thing for women. I'd get a second opinion on that conclusion.

Secondly, perhaps there is an enviromental cause for these boils.

Do you ever wear tight clothing...and are you using a hypoallergenic detergent for your clothing? I like to use the clear detergent...free of perfumes and other chemicals.

Do you put anything topically on the boils?

Seems like there should be something out there that can help you.

I remember years ago...2 of my brothers came down with boils. The dr. told my mother that they were caused by something in their environment. He recommeded that we bathe them in hot bath water with a small amount of bleach added. It sounds weird...but.. the boils went away and never came back.

I am not recommending this treatment for you, rather, it's meant only to illustrate that there is a solution somewhere for this.

Have you been to a dermatologist? If so...what did he recommend? What poignant questions were asked?

In any case...I hope you can eventually find some more answers to this.

Best wishes,

~Dottie I feel sick to my stomach I feel sick to my stomach

so sorry your going through this....it has to be awful to feel the way you are....but when I was younger I got one or two of them and my doctor recommended a thing called black sauve...(? on spelling}...it looks like black tar in a jar like vicks vaporizer.....you put it on and it works by drawing the boil to a head so it can release the pus and stuff....(sorry for being so gross).....ask the pharmist they will know... I have seen it around our pharmacies...take care and wishing you well...

I am sorry you are going through so much pain with this. I don't think that it is gross..My oldest son use to get boils between his thighs a lot...I bought him Boil-Eaze which is an over the counter product that has an analgesic for pain, and it also draws the infection out..It worked really well for him..I hope you will be able to rest and get some sleep...take gentle care...

Thanks guys. I wrote this very early in the morning and now I am even more embarressed for posting it. I feel like a gross ***. I feel sick to my stomach

Dottie,

I went to see a plastic surgeon about the boils and he said that they are common in women who either wax or shave in that area. There is a techinical name for it and I cant think of it right now.
I have used the same detergent for ages. This has been happening I would say about the last 2 years or so. I had them in VA and now I am in TX so I dont know.

Hope,

I know what your talking about. It is called Black Salve. It was not available in VA. Beleive me, I checked everywhere. So my sister, who used to suffer from the same thing but in a different area of the body, lives in PA and it was available there. She purchased me several tubes and mailed them about 2 months ago. I have been putting that on every other day. It has actually helped but like I said it has been so painful putting that on makes it even more painful.

I am sorry I posted this cause I am really embarraressed. I feel sick to my stomach

Thank you climbingkit I feel sick to my stomach

I too have purchased that. It only works for a little while then the pain kicks back in.

Right now I am lying on the couch, with my leg propped up. the Advil has helped more then I thought it would. I will wobble my butt upstairs soon to again soak and after that, more black salve. I feel sick to my stomach

jen, this sorta sounds bacterial. has anyone drawn any liquid from one of these and sent it to a lab? you could have something running around inside that is causing the eruptions.

i had a coral cut once and after many doctor visits, i used a salve called "bag balm", which i know you can get in Texas.....at a co-operative or a feed store..or health food store..sometimes....it worked for the coral cut.

i know what kind of pain you're experiencing. i had a boil when i was 15. it hurt like all get out! i hope you get relief immediately!!!

Thanks Pat I feel sick to my stomach

Everytime I had it lanced the fluid was sent to the lab for testing. It turned up nothing. My DR prescribed Anti-biotics just in case though. I will actually stop by a health food store and see what I can find there. Thanks for your suggestions. I feel sick to my stomach

Hugs,

Jen

Bag Balm is wonderful for MANY things - and I know its in our WalMart here ! Neat container, black and white like cows ! LOL Not only soaking in warm tub will help, but putting warm compresses will help it come to a head and burst. OUCH.........yukkkkky pain for sure ! Hope u soon get relief. And - just a thought - but if the plastic surgeon told you what causes them, would it sorta make sense not to continue doing what causes them ?

(((Jen)))

I get boils a lot due to malnutrition. Has your doctor checked to see if maybe you are malnourished?

They can be quite painful. I'm sorry you have that problem.

Boils can also be caused by toxins. When a body gets full of toxins (chemical, natural... allergy type stuff), and the body is not able to release it through regular means, ie lymph glands, urinating, etc, oftentimes boils develop as the body's way of releasing the toxins from the body. This may or may not be the cause of yours but if it is, detoxifying your body and using remedies to help your lymph glands work better might help.

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I hope you can find relief soon.

Parker,

I have switched to bakini bare rather then the shaving or waxing but I still continue to get them I feel sick to my stomach.

Thanks Ozzie, yes, it is very, very painful. Thanks for your concern.

GEM,

I never thought of that. I know that I really do not the best of foods and the DR has never really mentioned that to me before. It is worth looking into. Thank you.

Wantto,

That is very interesting. This is also something I need to discuss with the DR. As soon as I find one that is. I never thought of that either. I know that my sister use to have re-occuring boils but on a different area of her body. I thought it was a genetic thing. I can be such an air head.

I soaked again this afternoon and soon after I got out of the tub the boil drained. YUCK and EW.

Please do not read below this line if your squimish

I squeezed it until nothing else would come out of it. I cleaned it with peroxide and have been re-cleaning it ever few hours or so. I want to make sure that the area stays clean. I was talking to my hubby and we thought that maybe the bath "puffs" maybe a contributing factor to these boils. I started buying them a few years back and that is really the only thing down there.......hmmmm hmmm. I dunno. I am going to discontinue the use of them and see if that makes a difference also.

All I know is I am feeling alot better since it has drained but it is still very tender.

Thank you guys for your replies, suggestions and comments. Lots of good feedback I have here to talk to a DR about.

Hugs,

Jen
