does anyone have thyroid problems? can be very frustrating because low thyroid can make your metabolism so slow not to mention the other usual symptoms with it. i walk & jog & over the past 2 months ive actually put on 20lbs. not unusual when thy meds need adjusted just very frustrating. what pisses me off so much is i had a thy test done back in the summer & it never made it to my docs office i had blood work the other day & the lady that takes blood told me my last test was high which if the thy is underactive the number goes high. well my meds need adjusted months ago & now my thy is even more sluggish. doc bumped me up another notch from 75mcg to 88mcg. he wanted to go to 100mcg but i told him i didnt want to end up with overactive so we agreed on 88 & my thy is getting tested again in a month. they typically want to do these tests once a year which is so stupid point is they need to be done once every 3 months my doc even said this today i never realized how much a role the thy plays in the body i even keep coming up with low sodium levels & cholesterol a little high & this can all be caused by low thyroid not to mention the metabolism goes to operating to nothing so nothing is getting burned i could see if i sit around & do nothing but come on i post in the ed forum for compulsive exercise! not to mention it messes with moods thinking to where a lot of people describe it like they feel like theyre losing their mind which i know cuz ive had all these & when u got mental illness anyways it can just throw a person into a complete zombie. oh well when i was very first put on thy med my dose was 50mcg & weight started dropping then when i got pregnant it was raised to 75 so ive never been at the 88mcg level which i thought it would be wise instead of skipping to 100mcg. im just glad i have a doc that listens cuz a lot of people say their doc act like they dont care when it comes to testing often enuff & regulating doses. ok done with rant

Good luck with this

been on thy meds for most of my adult life... am on 100 mcg for the last two years.... first started on 50 then a few years later onto 75 then a few years after that onto 88 and now I'm at 100.
If it was a "grade" I'd have an "A" (100 = A)

I have a sis on 110 and a mother on 125.... thyroid problems run in my family.
I'm thankful it's not a big deal and can be adjusted mostly by meds-- there are so many much worse things to happen to the body(IMO)

best to you

I had major problems for a couple years. Mine was going back and forth. One month it was HYPER the next month it was HYPO. They could not medicate me until it finally burned itselt out....2 years later! Meanwhile, I gained a ton of weight because of it. It finally burned out and now is HYPO and I take 50mcgs of Synthroid.

Hi,

What you describe sounds a lot like Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Hashi's is associated with celiac disease. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have your doc check you for celiac. Your doc should have tested you for Hashi's antibodies while you still had your thyroid. At this point they would have to test you for gluten anti-bodies (celiac).

I take 125mcg and it sure makes a difference in my life (which I notice more when I skip a few doses in a row). Before the last change in dosage, I felt very bad. I was sleeping or wanting to alllll the time, getting through a workday was hard, concentration and focus were difficult, thought processes were really slow (I'm naturally a rather slow thinker to begin with-yikes!), digestion was difficult and slow, my skin was dry, my voice hoarse. I also sometimes struggle with hydration, and some of those symptoms are the same, so I tried to make sure I was hydrated so I could decide if I needed to have my thyroid checked again.

Yes, I have "low thyroid." It was found during my annual physical. I am now on synthroid and get checked every so often. My doc is female and she has it, too, so at least she's more aware of it......She said it's actually fairly common in women.....I was over weight--but part of it is my "overactive fork"!

I take 137 mcg of Synthroid. I've had hypothyroid since my early 30's.

trixielou (I had a beloved cat by that name ), I'm glad that you're feeling better and that you are going for more blood work soon. You are lucky that your weigh has leveled off. I wish my increased dose would work that way for me, but no such luck.

I got to the doctor every three months for my thyroid and asthma. Everything is going well now so we only do the lab tests every six months/every other visit. I started on vitamin D therapy visit before last so now we'll retest that too, see if it's working okay.

I had to struggle a year or more to get my thyroid level right and when to take the supplement too. I take it in the middle of the night when I get up to pee so it doesn't get tangled with any other meds or eating, etc.
