i have this rare condition, "conjunctivitis with pseudo membrane". There's basically a thin layer of "skin" that builds up under my eyelid and then peels off. I then have those chunks of "skin" stuck under my eyelid, which is excrutiatingly painful. The only way to get them out is with a q-tip, which of course further irritates my eye, plus I don't always get them all out. I usually get those attacks in the summer, caused by allergies. Well, for three days now I've been getting attacks every evening. The first night I was in so much pain that my husband drove me to the ER. Of course, they'd never heard about this condition. Noone has, except for the doctor who diagnosed it. Everyone always looks at me like I"m crazy. It's soooo painful. Righ tnow I'm sitting here with my eye hurting like he!!. I don't think I got it all out. I now printed out some information about this condition, that way shoudl I have to go to the ER again, I can show them that this really exists and I am not making this up.

I do't want to deal with this anymore. It hurts, it's random and it's annoying.

has the doctor said anything about an underlying cause...like have you had this all your life or did it just start up? could something else be triggering this...since it seems you only get this at certain times a year.......possibly it can be curable....i know my doctors never cure anything they just give me stuff to live with it i am always doing my own research...and end up by helping myself.....have you tried going to any local health food store and asking the owner if they have heard of this?

sorry don't mean to berate you with questions,,,i just have strong feelings when people are stuck with something and have this hopelessness typr feeling...too many times over have i witnessed people being "cured" and doctors saying theres no way you will ever get over whatever it is they had.

No, he just gave me eyedrops for it, sometimes they help, sometimes they don't. Right now they don't.
It gets so frustrating because no american doctor I've seen for this has ever heard of it. It was a german doctor who finally diagnosed it. He knew right away what it was. It took two years of suffering.

I looked for information on the internet, but haven't foudn anything about treatments.

How frustrating to have not only a painful condition, but for it to be uncommon enough that doctors find you strange, and there's little that can be done. Guess the silver lining is receiving a diagnosis.

Has the ER staff been of any help at all?

The last one, yes. The doctor numbed up my eye and cleaned it all out. That was extremely helpful. Usually, they just give me some ointment or drops or whatever and say here, try this. And all that stuff just makes it worse.
