ok...so I rarely post because I always forget to go back and read responses, but I will remember this time because i have a nagging reminder.
I sprained my ankle August 18, and it is now October 7. I am still in pain and infact the last couple of days the pain has gotten worse. I never had it x-rayed and am trying to decide if that is something I should have done, because it is really getting anoying because it hurts! I have a high pain tollerance so I was never on crutches or anything like that, but some days I think I should be. Any advize would be greatly appreciated.

1dar if it has lasted this long you should definitely be looked at. I may just be that you need to be off it for a while for it to heal properly or it could need a splint or cast or something.

Having someone look at it should at least clarify the issue.

Good luck with it and I hope you are out of pain SOON!

I have cerebral palsy. I fall down the result is a sprain of some kind so Im walking across the street an down I go. I pick myself up and being the expert I am at shutting out my pain (I have DID) I ignore the pain and continue what I am doing - crossing the street to visit my son. I get to DHS. Take my shoe off not much bruising just a dull ache like I normally get with sprains. I let the caseworker know and she helps me back to the visiting room. I have her call a friend to get me home so that I can relax after seeing my son. My friend desides we are going to the doctors, even though it is just a sprain. ( Im able to walk on it and so it just hurts a bit) But I agree if for anything else so that I have a doctors statement so DHS can't claim I am not taking care of myself. X rays come back I have a broken 5th metatarsal Last bone in foot on outside. It took 7 months for it to heal. (hindered by my walking on it to attend caseworkers meetings when I was supposed to stay off it by doctors orders, and the fact that I have cerebral palsy. Normal bone breaks heal in about 4-6 weeks)

I learned my lesson no matter what I now get x rays.

Why take risks where your health is concerned? It's one of the most important thing you have.

An xray is very simple & as we know....no pain until they twist the sore part. I thought for sure that my shoulder was just bruised from my horse fall last week......it seems that usually my pains never show up anything totally seriously.....WRONG. I realized that after a week, the pain was not improving & if anything was getting worse after starting to use my arm a little more & even back to riding again. I had a knee reconstruction 19 years ago with a wonderful orthopedic specialist. He gave me a rule of thumb to go with & that was: If you have an injury & it doesn't start to improve within a week then there is usually something more serious wrong.....& he has been correct 100%. I had an xray done today & it is not a fracture...it is a break. It is better to know for sure than to guess wrong & end up worse off in the long run.

OK so i still haven' gone in, but my back started to bother me the last couple of days, so I am going to call the chiro tomorrow... my mom said that I should have them look at it. I don't think she believes me that it still hurts really bad. Hopefully I will have some answers soon.

NO I still havent gone in, but I probally made it wose today. I lost track of time and had to RUN to work. It doesn't hurt too bad YET....but I am sure it will once the adrenelan rush has past. It is nicely swollen and as the adrenelan wears off I start to feel the pain more. I think that was the worst thing I could possibly have done, but oh well live and learn I guess.

Ok Dar,

If I can do it.....so can you.....even though it is different parts of the body....it still is a problem. You know like me thinking the shoulder was "just a bruse" & it was a break......we can talk ourselves into almost anything......xrays tell the truth (whether we like it or not).

You know you might be the lucky one & have it really not be something more serious but you will never know without that dang xray. I was really hoping that the xray would show that nothing was wrong & that the pain would just go away. Like my otrhopedic specialist told me....if the pain continues without getting better for a week then there is something serious going on & needs taken care of......that has been my rule of thumb everysince then & it is true. That was what he told me when my Anterior Cruciate Ligament in my knee was completely gone when he went in for the surgery. Then I tore the meniscus ligament in the other knee......broken finger was obvious cause the finger was crooked......then the fracture in my hip. The hip fracture I went in for xrays immediately but they found nothing because the swelling hid the fracture.....several months later with the pain it was xrayed & bond scaned again to show the fracture......I had continued riding my horse & showing my dogs & living with the pain. Of course there was nothing they could do with that only time healed (1 year).

Please do something & we can exchange stories....ok????,
Debbie

why suffer so long without knowing what's wrong???

twice i have had foot injuries that both were resolved (no more pain) as soon as the doc prescribed me an orthotic insert (elevated heal or forced foot to arch more). i was amazed both times how quickly the pain disappeared with a cheap insert. no pain meds!

get seen by a doc!

OK so I saw the chiro today, he said that he doesn't think it is broken, but will take an x-ray on Friday to be sure. So I have to wait somemore before I know for sure.

that's a long time to wait in case it IS broken! I hope it isn't. Do you normally see a chiropractor? TC KILLER PAIN-NEED ADVICE

Gee Dar..I wish you'ld see a pain management specialist. Mine.. just fixed up my left arm..I had barely any range of motion left in it. He gave me 4 trigger point shots. Relief was immediate. I can ly down on the arm and just do things I could not do before.

I am going in week after next for more shots and an MRI of my lower spine for Lumbar Radiculitis..I am claustrophobic..so this should be fun.

Dar some people swear by chiropractors..but I am a little leery of yours wanting you to wait.

Be careful..& take good care. KILLER PAIN-NEED ADVICE

Well went in to chiro today. He almost forgot about my ankle, then he is sure it isn't broken so he just adjusted it. Said if it gets worse let him know. Right now it is hurtung pretty good....but he said it would be soar today. Thinking I might wrap it for today and see if it feels better that way. Go back next week Tuesday.
Hope it doesn't get worse over the weekend.

hello all-
So I know it has been a while since I first said that I was going into the chiropractor to get my ankle checked. It more less got ignored because my back has been bothering me more, and so today when I was in I asked him about it because I was off of it for almost 24hours on Sunday-Monday and on Tuesday it KILLED to walk almost all day. SO I told him that the longer I am off it the better it feels, and that somedays it is good and others it hurts really bad. So he said that I should come in tomorrow and he would x-ray it because it is begining to sound a bit like a stress fracture. So I will keep u all posted.

Well it's NOT broken, but hurts like hell agian. Chiro said it must be the ligiment not healing because I keep using it. Basically said if doesnt resolve in a mont then have to see ortho or have MRI. But for know I guess knowing it isn't broken is the best there is.
