Has anyone else been for a EEG before? Bit daunting mine's not for a few weeks and it's making me quite anxious.

((crazylife)) - yes I've had one before. Are you worried what the test might reveal or worried about the test itself? Why are they doing the test? Its not uncomfortable at all. Here's a web link that describes the test and good luck.

Worried about a bit of both really more the test than the results as i'm quite sure i know whats causing it. There doing the test as i had a few fits when i was mega stressed out and hitting rock bottom but that's the only time they've happened.

I had an EEG a few years ago after I had a sudden out of the blue seizure. The test itself was fine, but definitevly hate a wide tooth comb and maybe a hat for after the test. They basically have to stick electrodes to your head and they use this sticky stuff for it, it really messes up your hair. I realize that vanity shouldn't be a primary concern for after having had a medical test, but it took quite a bit of time in the washroom with a comb and a lot of water, to get my hair half way presentable.

They will take excellent care of you.

Let them know about your worries so they can help you feel much better. They want you to feel comfortable and they will do whatever they can to help you feel that way. The recording part will likely be something you don't even notice.

Good Luck to you!!

They will be recording your brain waves to a computer and/or printing on paper. The are not recording you on a video camera. You knew that, right? The only time I have known people to be on video camera while having EEG is during sleep studies.

I just had an EEG and it was not a big deal. Just let the doctor know that you are anxious and they will help you out. Just ask for what you need....! If I can get through it you can cause I feel so much pain. Crew

I've had an EEG before and the process itself is actually not bad at all. They'll do what they can to make you comfortable. As for the test results, it might help give you some idea of what's going on and a better direction. Good luck!

Hi crazy life! I've had a sleep study before & so had to sleep in all the EEG stuff & they videoed me all night while I slept. I don't know much about why you're having the EEG but if they are in fact videoing you during it, my guess would be that it would be for about the same general reason they videoed me: which was just in case they wanted to reference it after studying your brain wave print out, etc. Basically just another source of information if they see something of interest on the print out, they'd use the video to be able to see you physically at that point in addition to your brain waves.

I hope that helps some! Knowing more facts about something I have anxiety about sometimes helps me, so I thought I'd share.

Thanks the more info i am getting the easier it is to deal with. I hope the video part of the letter was just in there as a normal letter they send to everyone. I can only hope.

(((crazylife)))

I've had many VEEG's. At the place I go to, it is normal practice done with every EEG.

They start the test by having you nap (if possible) ~ they do recommend sleep deprivation before the test (no more than 4 hrs of sleep the night before the test). The whole point of the testing is to see how your brain reacts to common stressors. Sleep deprivation, heavy breathing, flashing lights, memory, thinking (counting backwards).

The glue for the electrodes (and removal) is the worst part. Especially because they use a bunch of acetone to remove the glue. It smells yucky ~ and the hair is like it hasn't been washed in months! Unless you have pretty short hair, this part just stinks, I would imagine.

The entire test is videotaped for and expert to review, in which they can declare whether or not they saw any seizure activity. Don't worry about the video. Gentle hugs and best wishes sent your way!

Went for my EEG today and it wasn't to bad. Had 22 sticky things on my head and 2 on my wrist had it scratched when they went on and stung a bit. Had to lie there for 10 minutes with my eyes shut while being video recorded. Then had to hyperventilate for 3 minutes then had to look at flashing lights with eyes open and shut, the worse was my eyes shut because all the patterns were crazy and quite scary. Thanks for your support PC.
