I had a wonderful appointment with a dietician today. This was my first consultation, and we went over all of my medications, health issues, eating habits and supplements I take.

Next, she showed me all of the portions of each food group I should have and how small each portion is. Soups, which I love to make, are excellent idea. I was afraid of red meat, and she told me of the portions I can have. With that, I may be able to come off the multivitamins and the B12 supplements, but to stay on the calcium/D3 supplements. I can drop the niacin. I am also allowed to eat shrimp about three times a month, Yay!!

So my next appointment is one month away. In the mean time I will ahve to journal everything I eat and what time. She is more concerned with me not eating properly on schedule. Sometimes I do cook supper, sometimes I don't etc. So the scheduling is very important.

I will also have to put a check mark on the calendar for each day i exercise. Then I am to bring all of this information back to her as well as blood tests for levels of certain things. I am so happy to finally have some guidance!!

It sounds like it was a good appointment and will be helpful. Good for you for being proactive for your health! Good going and sending well wishes as you move forward this next month!

The journalling is a little tedious lol. I think that is going to be my biggest challenge...remembering to journal everything I eat and drink. Especially for a whole month.

You can do it and will be well rewarded by it too. That is what helped me so much when I started a helalthy lifestyle eatting plan. We were handed little booklets to write in, with columns for whate, how much, what time and we also had to look up the fat calories and the total calories after the first month.

Once you know your 'habits', your dietcian will be able to help you with little steps, change things that aren't helpful to what ever your goals are.

Good luck and keep up posted, it will be great to see you overcome your bigggest challenge.

I sometimes do it in reverse; put everything in my food tracker http://www.imedicalapps.com/2011/10/...ight-loss-app/ and then I "choose" what to eat, when. Sometimes I'll have a snack early, sometimes a piece of lunch, for an after dinner snack, etc. But having the food all laid out for me, I don't have to think as much about what to have, when, etc., I just "choose" from that day's list.

That is a very cool idea Perna. Thanks. I do have to get out my old weight scales for the food portions again. I know it is hiding somewhere in my kitchen cupboards.
