Are there any suggestions on a natural, non-prescription or OTC supplement for boosting or accelarating the metabolism? I suffer from a mildly underactive thyroid but cannot afford the prescription medication.
Many thanks

Some spices are... google or yahoo or jeeves this, I'm sure you'll get more... but red pepper hot type spices are great for this! In fact, I notice that each week that I eat pizza (I load it down with oregano and hot pepper flakes) I lose weight. If I don't use the hot spice, I don't.

Sometime else to think about (if you haven't already) is the ingredients in the foods you eat now that tend to bog down metabolism... or knock it off kilter (like sugar highs.)

What I've found -totally unscientific poll- many doctors don't medicate ENOUGH for low thyroid function...they only give enough to bring it up barely to minimums... the elderly ppl I meet at the restaurant "all" are on thyroid med, but they still bring sweaters because they're so cold... seems to me that could be prevented.

If you don't get better answers than mine, once I feel better I'll check on the net for you...

I wish I could. I am in South Africa and nothing comes for free here. Truly nothing.
