I am having trouble with my eyes and reading up close now, despite been nearsighted. The doc has recommended bifocals or progressive lenses, and I opted for progressives as vanity won out. I am still reeling over the fact that I need them, and if one more person tells me how old I am getting, I am going to scream. I need them though considering the work I do and have to be able to see. I am nervous though; it seems like it will be weird and very awkward especially at first. I wondered if anyone has them, how it went to adjust to them, and if there might be any advice or recommendations?

I have progressive lenses and really like them. I was surprised at how easy it was to get used to them, and it is so nice to be able to read without having to switch to reading glasses all the time.
My sister wasn't able to work with the progressive lenses. For her I think it is that she is a choir director and the quick distance switches she has to make from piano music to choir students and back just was too drastic for progressives to work well for her. Your glasses probably come with a 30 day warranty, so really pay attention to how they work for you and if you discover they don't work, you can always switch over to regular bifocal lenses. I know it's a blow to have to go to bifocals. I remember that, but once I hit 40, my vision just really went through some major changes. That's pretty normal really. In fact, when I had my last exam, my near vision was much worse but my distance vision had actually improved. Doc said that was pretty typical. |

Hi ~ I was an Optician for YEARS and I've been wearing Progressive lenses for many years. I LOVE them!!! They work for ANY distance that I need to see.
It takes a little while to get used to them, but you WILL LOVE them after you adjust. At first, when you moved your head from side to side, you MIGHT feel a tiny bit "dizzy" but MOST people do not. Also, if you have ANY astigmatism, the floor might look like it's going downhill -- so just be careful. LOL Also, make sure you look thru the TOP part of the lenses if you're stepping UP on a curb, or DOWN off the curb, as you don't want to trip. That goes for stairs too. Experiment with them at home. Remember that when you're reading, you look thru the VERY BOTTOM OF THE LENSES. When you're on the computer, you look thru THE MIDDLE of the lenses -- you'll find the right place. Just move your head gently until you find the right place. LOL I'm sure you'll like them. Like I said, they're for every distance that you'll need. If you have any more questions, just let me know. Hugs, Lee |

My hubby has them and they work well for him. Me, I just have the old-fashioned bifocals with the obvious line going across. I still remember the first day I wore them. I had a time even going up and down stairs!
Yep, getting them tends to be a sign that our eyes are aging, along with the rest of us, but I do thank Ben Franklin for developing them! ![]() |

There's a bit of an adjustment, but it will go okay. The advice given to me by the optometrist was to point my nose to where I want to look, when using the upper portion of the lens. Then the opposite when using the bottom portion of the lens for close things like reading or needlework. So, instead of moving the eyes, you move your head. It doesn't take long to adjust to doing that.
I'm glad that you'll soon be able to see better - that will feel really good! |

I've had them for years, they are fantastic. There's a small adjustment and then you won't even notice. Really, took me a few hours.

I don't even notice mine. I had ordered regular bifocals at first, and I got SO DEPRESSED! I couldn't imagine going thru life with this huge artificial line going across my field of vision! it was awful! it made the world so ugly! and I was just looking out at a parking lot! I took them back and got progressives. I worked at computers at the time, and never had a problem. I do have this weird thing where I still see better VERY close (4 inches from my nose) without glasses, but after that, it's glasses all the way.
