My back is starting to hur more often than not and I know it's bc of my poor posture. Any suggestions on how to improve it? I sit all day, not too keen on exercise, and I wear flats with my outfit, so high heels aren't a problem.
I think I need to start by doing strengthening exercises for my back. Bt what about sitting down and posture....do you just decide to sit up one day? I think that woud cause more back pain to just change your sitting technique out of nowhere? |

Start by strengthening your abs. Just contract them while you're sitting, or walking out to your car.

Some people gradually get their balance on the exercise ball that you can sit on. It has to be an exercise ball tall enough so you can work at the desk with your shoulders in a relaxed position.
For head posture, just imagine a string attached to the top of your head that pulls your head up in line with your spine. There is another tip to help posture is to tilt your pelvis forward. This should help your spine go into a more natural position. (A long while back I used to teach exercise classes.) |

Do you sit in a quality chair? A good chair can help with posture. If your office chair is uncomfortable or is causing the back problem, please speak with your office manager about upgrading.

I was just going to suggest physical therapy too. You shouldn't do ANY exercises unless you've been taught how to do them the PROPER way by a physical therapist.
Ask your doc to send you to physical therapy. Or ask him to give you a print out of the proper way to do these strengthening exercises, if that's all you need. I would think that since you have pain, he'd run some tests to make sure there's nothing going on in there. But that's up to him. I wish you the very best. God bless and please take care. Hugs, Lee

I have weak core muscles as well due to bad posture.
I think if you (or myself) were to suddenly sit upright all day long, yes it would hurt because were not used to it. Maybe put a stick on your desk or somewhere on your computer screen, phone wherever that says sit up. And every time you notice it just try to straighten for a little while. I've done this (without the sticky, just sitting up as I remember) and usually it only takes a minute or so before I slouch back to normal. |
