I get really shaky hands sometimes. This happens when I'm using my hands to do fine manipulations. My hands shake worse when I tell myself I have to steady them. The more I think about it, the more shaky it becomes.

Sometimes when I hold a cup to my mouth, my hands shake and the water almost spills if it's full. My hands sometimes shake when I'm writing, it sort of jerks suddenly at times.

Today I was putting together a taco and my hands shook so badly my Mom noticed and I made a mess.

Does anyone else have this shakiness? Am I dying?

I've had shaky hands for a long time now, I don't remember when it started. Could it be a side effect from my meds? I'm on Celexa, Wellbutrin and Risperdal.

Could I have Parkinsons? I'm only 24.

I keep forgetting to bring it up with my doctor because it usually isn't a problem for me, but it gets really annoying sometimes when I do things that require a steady hand.

could be the meds...have you looked them up on the computer to see what affects they can produce?

Hi Greenleaves.

I've got shaky hands sometimes too.

Have you been sleeping enough and/or have you done any new dieting lately? It can be caused by not enough food/vitamins.

I know mine is because I haven't really been eating much lately.

Hope you can find the answer soon. Talk with your doctor, he/she can help you narrow down the cause.

I've looked up temor and it turns out that some antidepressants like Prozac can cause tremors. Celexa is an SSRI, just like Prozac. Maybe that's what's causing the temor.

If it's caused by diet, shouldn't my hands shake all the time? They only shake when I'm holding them outstretched or doing fine motor tasks. Sometimes my head does a "no-no" movement.

I think it's essential tremor.

Temor

Essential Tremor

I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor.

((((((((( Green ))))))))))))

Please ask your Dr about your hands. You need to have this checked.

Hugs,

Jan

A friend of mine's sister has really bad shaky hands, and they're gonna do an MRI just to be safe. Too much caffiene can do it too. My hands shake bad when I need to eat and I've had too much caffeine. Definetly see the doc before you worry yourself sick!

You should ask your doc fot the AIMS test. Your tremors are probably SSRI- and neuroleptic-induced.

please check out this article on tardive dyskinesia (which tremor is a symptom of). it can be very serious and permanent condition if not treated wisely. for more info on TD read this article

I've made an appointment for next week.

I don't drink coffee, tea or coke most of the time, so I'm sure it's not caffeine. I'm pretty sure I don't have low blood sugar too. My blood sugar has always been in the normal range. All my blood tests have been fine. I was only a little low on iron.

Unfortunately I'm already worrying myself sick. I've had a breast lump for 6 months now and I just had a fine needle aspiration biopsy (they stuck a needle in the lump to get some cells). I'm waiting for the results and thinking the worst.

I would much rather have an essential tremor than breast cancer.

do you have any of these symptoms, too?
* Rapid movements of the arms, legs, and trunk
* Impaired movements of the fingers may appear as though the patient is playing an invisible guitar or piano.

No, I don't have any of those symptoms. When I'm resting, walking, typing, etc., I don't have any tremors at all. They only happen when I'm trying to build a tower with wooden blocks, for example. I could never play Jenga. My arms and hands also move a little bit when I hold then stretched in front of me.

Usually I have no problems with the tremors, but they get annoying when I have to do things that require a steady hand.

I didn't know that tardive dyskinesia includes tremors...

Somehow I don't think what I have is TD. If I have TD, shouldn't I tremors all the time? I only get the tremors when I'm doing certain things.

Have you been tested for hypoglycemia? Imbalances in blood sugars can cause shakiness too. You might only notice it when focusing on the small stuff?

I've had blood tests before, they were all normal. I don't know if they test for hypoglycemia or not.

I don't feel hypoglycemic...

I'm going to stop taking my Risperdal tonight. I want to see if stopping it will stop my tremors. If it doesn't work, I'll stop the Celexa and Wellbutrin too.

I hope I'll be ok without the meds.

Sorry that is NOT a good answer, green. Please call your doctor and don't self medicate! Let the doctor decide for you , ok? Why else do they spend all that time and money and energy learning how? (((hugs)))

It could be anxiety.

I don't think it's anxiety. I used to think it was anxiety, but now I'm pretty sure it's not always anxiety.

I didn't feel anxious eating tacos yesterday.

I'm going to stop the Risperdal tonight and see what happens.

Actually, I think I should taper instead. I don't want to risk withdrawal.

Do NOT quit taking medicine without consulting your Dr! You can't just decide to quit taking medicine on your own. It's not safe.

Hugs,

Jan

Greenleaves, I don't think you have TD. I mentioned TD because tremors, if neuroleptic- & SSRI-induced, can lead to TD. Any type of adverse effect needs to be discussed with your doc. Still ask your doc to do the AIMS test on you because you feel shaky. (((((huggs))))

You could have a psychotic episode if you stop antipsychotics without help of doctor. It happened to me and I never had a history of psychotic episodes. I ended up in the ER and locked in psych ward against my will. Not fun. Very very embarrassing!!! I was lucky I didn't die. Stopping meds could be fatal. Please talk with your doctor.

I took 0.625 mg last night instead of 0.75 mg.

I'm conflicted about stopping my meds. I'm doing really well right now, despite all the stress I'm going through. I don't really want to change anything right now. My tremors really aren't that bad most of the time. I'm not even sure the meds are causing it.

I think I should tell my pdoc. I see her on June 26.

Call your pdoc tonight. Leave a message on her answering machine or answering service. Tell her what you are doing, please. This is serious. Antipsychotics and SSRI's are not to be discontinued (or tapered) without the consult of a physician. Please please call your doctor.
