The reason I am asking about this is because I have discovered a rather large knot on my cervix. I've been hurting down there for about 2 months, and now my lower abdomen is cramping very bad. I know this could be any number of things, but it still has me very worried, because my mother had cervical cancer at my age. I'm going to call the doctor and see if they can see me today.

I know no one here can diagnose me, and by all means, that's not what I am asking here. I'm just wondering if any of the other women here have had the same symptoms as I have, and if so, what were you diagnosed with? I'm just trying to get a good idea of what else this could be. I've never had anything like this before, and I must admit that I am scared.

I'll keep you all updated on what the doctor says. I hope they can see me today...

Oh, I hear how scary this is...I've been there too with a sudden lump in my breast. Turns out that I develop benign cysts easily.

I did a quick search and found this:
"Symptoms usually do not appear until abnormal cervical cells become cancerous and invade nearby tissue. When this happens, the most common symptom is abnormal bleeding. Bleeding may start and stop between regular menstrual periods, or it may occur after sexual intercourse, douching or a pelvic exam. Menstrual bleeding may last longer and be heavier than usual. Bleeding after menopause also may be a symptom of cervical cancer. Increased vaginal discharge is another symptom of cervical cancer. "

Of course, I am no doctor, but from reading the symptoms it sounds different from what you have described.

I think you are doing the right thing in getting this checked out by a doctor right away. Let us know how it goes.

((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))

YES.... I have had the symptoms in which you speak of and my doctor found out they were cyst.... some of them do and can grow large during my periods..... my doctor keeps an eye on them and checks them regularly due to my families history with cancer.

BTW - a cyst that becomes hard and will not move can develop into cancer....

A friend of mine's daughter just had a vaginal cyst removed -- sounds a lot like what you're describing. It was same-day surgery and her sister took care of her kids overnight so she could get some rest. Hope it all works out for you!

I commend you for being so aware of your body, most women (and men) are not so in tune with themselves, nor aware of normal vs abnormal etc to even question something. I hope it turns out "normal" occurrence that you "happen" to notice, and is nothing worrisome in the future. ((((hugs))) (How scary!)

It could be completely normal and just a part of your body -

A friend of mine noticed a "lump" the first time she explored as an adult healing from abuse and she got real anxious and ended up in major panic over it. thought she had cancer or the abuse damaged her physically and so on.

It turned out that her uterus was titled and turned a bit so that when she was exploring and found a sensitive lump she was actually touching a bit of her overy.

Her doctor told her being able to touch the overies and their being sensitive to touch is completely normal when is certain positions in fact a physician routinely touches the overies to deturmine shape and size and so on during routine yearly physicals. He told her to think of it this way. In the womb when a baby is being formed the same material used for forming overies in girls is the same material used to form a boys testicles. The difference is that the chromosomes determine if eggs or sperm is made within that sac. Boys are sensitive in that area, girls are two the only difference is that girls don't always feel the sensitivity because the overy sac is more protected then a guys sac is.

Hang in there,

Thanks, everyone. I really do appreciate you all. You always come through for me when I need it most!

I went to the doctor yesterday. She did a pelvic exam and said that there is definitely something there. I went back today for a pelvic ultrasound, but I wont know the results of it until a little later. My doctor referred me to a gynecologist, and she is sending the ultrasound pictures to him. I'm still a little worried, but not as much as I was before I went to the doctor.

She explained to me that it could be a cyst, or it may just be scar tissue since I've had 3 kids, or it could even be one of my ovaries I am feeling because they can "drop" some. I never even thought about that..

I won't know when I am going to see this new doctor until they call and let me know when my appointment is. But I will definitely keep you all updated. Question about Cervical Cancer... May TRIGGER

Just wanted to let you all know that I go to the doctor tomorrow. Since I posted this I've also found another polyp/growth/cyst... whatever it may be. And the glands under both arms are so swollen that I can barely stand it. I have no clue what is wrong with me... but tomorrow I will at least have a better idea. Thanks for your continued prayers and well wishes. I'm a nervous wreck this morning. I know I may be getting myself all worked up over nothing, but I can't help it. I think I am reading too much on the internet about these symptoms. I really need to quit that! I'm scaring myself!

I went today, and was so thrilled to find this out! I do have something, but it's NOT life threatening!

I do NOT have any type of cancer!!! YEEE HAW!!! I was so RELIEVED! WHEW! My doctor did a pelvic exam and said that it's not a knot I was feeling. He said it only feels like one, because my cervix is swollen and so is my uterus. He said that the swelling is the cause of my pain down there. He also checked my glands... the ones in my throat and under my arms are very swollen too. And I also told him that I had a very sore throat and that I just feel soooo tired all the time. Well, it turns out that I have glandular fever, also called infectious mononucleosis. It's not a big deal really. He said it's passed like a lot of other viruses through saliva. He told me I probably got it from being around someone who had it that either coughed, sneezed, or didn't wash their hands. This virus is the cause of my uterus and cervix swelling... and my glands being swollen... and my spleen is also swollen... which would explain the pain in my side. I am just thrilled that it's nothing life threatening! Whew! I was so worried. Thank the Lord that I am going to be ok. This will last anywhere from 4-6 weeks, and I have to rest a lot. But I'm gonna be alright!

Thank you all SO much for being here for me and for praying for me! I appreciate it so much... I just can't put into words how special you all are to me. Question about Cervical Cancer... May TRIGGER

rut roh lol! Well, no compared to cancer it's not a big deal but it could be if you don't take care of yourself and treat it fully as the doctor says!
