Hello everyone! I'm a newbie here. I was diagnosed w/DDD about 7 months ago. I own my own business, but had to quit the labor side of it and hire help. Now that I am not doing the labor, I am starting to gain weight. UGH!!! What can I do to keep the weight down w/o hurting my back? I have alot of pain daily, and do not want surgery as an option. Do any of you get acupuncture done? If so, does it help the pain? Thanks!

I hear acupunture does work for many ppl...for various pain... I would suggest a physical therapist, or a physiatrist..either of which will train you in how to exercise with maintaining proper support and hopefully limiting your suffering. The new surgery of replacement disks sounds encouraging.

Welcome!

Hi Candee..I find that warm water exercise is best, and try soaking in epsom salts at least once a week as it contains magnesium that is helpful.

Also, light yoga for the back is good to do.. I do what I am able to do with out pain and I think it helps keep me from being too stiff...

It can be all about balance.. not doing too much but not doin gtoo little. There are things you can do nutritionally to help you as well.Might be worth checking into.

I hope you find relief soon! Faith

Hi, I have DDD and just learned it involves more then disks, I have spurs, should be a cowboy! I have pain frequently in my back and currently my arm. I have been told by one P.T. that actually walking in water is the best therapy. Then add weights to your ankles. However do not add the weights until you have been evaluated by a P.T. Floating also helps. And for those with a sense of humor, someone mentioned magnesium. Doc put me on slo-Mag for spasms and I was really gorked on heavy pain meds. About the third day I noticed I was having a b.m. every half hour. Took me another two days to figure out why. So magnesium is good but start slow and build up. Also accupunture has worked for me but I am too poor to afford now.
