My blood pressure is normally very low. It's been steadily going up, and then went down a little. Today is was 128/119! Do you have any ideas on why the diastolic would be so high and the systolic would be normal?

I'm very worried, to say the least. The Dr. told me to go get it checked often to see if it comes down and to report to my family Dr if it doesn't.

Hi Pat,

I had it checked today. I just looked up the reasons for high diastolic and pretty much wish I hadn't. At least now I know why I've started wheezing.... Help with Blood Pressure Needed Please

Hugs,

Jan

PS. I have an appt with my Dr in two weeks. Do you think I should see if I can move it up?

most definitely. call and explain and that bp number should get you in quicker. it's very unusual for it to be that high with the systolic in the normal range. let me know how it goes..getting into the doctor's office. xoxox pat

Pat, I've been so very tired and I haven't been breathing well. This is not good, and there are other things not good at all going on with my health.

I'll call tomorrow and I'll let you know.

Thanks bunches.

Hugs,

Jan

Hi,

I called my Dr's secretary, but I can't be seen for a week and a half. I did go to KMart to check my pressure but I don't trust the machine. It said the reverse of yesterday!

Anyway, I'm still dragging and I'm wondering if I should get a BP cuff that takes automatic reading. I think my friend will loan me the money to get it. The nurse told me if I have trouble breathing to go to the ER immediately. I told her to have no fears about that! Help with Blood Pressure Needed Please

I started the first day of my new health habits today. I have had no Pepsi or Mt. Dew. I ate grilled chicken and a salad, neither of which I'm sure the colitis will handle well. I tried Diet Rite today. I can't have regular diet drinks because I'm allergic to aspartame. How do you acquire a taste for Diet Rite?

I'm so tired. I guess I need to exercise today but with no sugar today, I'm even more tired than normal.

Thanks for reading this. I do appreciate it so much.

Hugs,

Jan

Jan, some of the Diet Rite (not the cola, sadly) is really, really good. Their lemonade is terrific, for example. See if you can find flavors besides cola.

Can you handle Splenda? I loooooove Propel flavored water. I'm pretty sure it has Splenda and not aspartame, but I'm not positive.

I hope you figure out what's going on and that it turns out to be perfectly minor! Help with Blood Pressure Needed Please

Love, Candy

Hi Candy,

I looked at Propel today, but it has sugar in it. So that won't work.

I will try to find different flavors of Diet Rite. I think maybe Krogers might have some. That cola flavor is just ewwwwwww! lol!

Hugs,

Jan

Taking blood pressure levels at home or work with a home blood pressure monitoring device may help determine a person's true range of blood pressure readings and avoid false readings from the white coat hypertension effect. More formal assessment may be made with an ambulatory blood pressure device that takes regular blood pressure readings every half an hour throughout the course of a single day and night. Aside from the white coat effect, blood pressure readings outside of a clinical setting are usually slightly lower in the majority of people. However the studies that looked into the risks from hypertension and the benefits of lowering the blood pessure in affected patients were based on the one-off clinic readings.

Basic digital blood pressure monitors are relatively inexpensive, making it easy for patients to monitor their own blood pressure.Their accuracy can vary greatly, as most have not been validated for accuracy. Upper arm, rather than wrist, monitors usually give readings closer to auscultatory. Some meters are automatic, with pumps to inflate the cuff without squeezing a bulb.

i can't find anything specific about your problem. but i just looked now and will look more tomorrow. xoxox pat

(((((((((((((( Pat ))))))))))))))

Thank you so much.

I checked it at Walmart on one of those machines and it's still high.

I started my diet and went shopping with my friend. She knew I wasn't feeling good and took me. We walked a lot, and even though we had lunch, I had a sugar level drop and almost hit the floor. I just don't do that. Ever!

Tomorrow is a new day!

Hugs,

Jan

You need to eat more fruits and veggies to keep your surgar from dropping. You might want to mention that to your doctor too because you could have diabetis which can cause the high blood presure as well as the surgar dropping out to nothing. Are you drinking a lot of fluids? If you are drinking more than usual that is a very good sign that you may have it. Please make sure you are eating enough to keep your surgar up until you get in to a doctor. It wouldn't be good if you passed out because your surgar got too low. Take good care of you.

(((((((((((((((( Friends )))))))))))))))

Thank you, each and every one!

I will try the Rasberry Diet Rite. I discovered Propel and it is awesome!

I am going to have to eat more. I usually live on Pepsi and Mt. Dew, so I'm used to lots of sugar in my system. I'll up the vegies and try some fruit. With ulcerative colitis, it's really hard to eat fruit. Help with Blood Pressure Needed Please

Hugs,

Jan

jan, if you'll PM me, i'll give you my e.mail address and mail you a stethoscope and try to find you a real arm cuff. taking the BP above the elbow, brachial pulse, (think i spelled brachial right) is the most accurate and i'll draw a diagram and show you how to find that pulse. if you can't have someone do that, i'll show you another way. xoxox pat
