How did your day go Bethsway?

I followed my plan today. I lost some water weight. I went from 113.4 lbs to 110.8 lbs. I know for sure it's water weight because there is no way I burned off more than 7000 kcal in two days! There are 3500 kcal in one pound. It's still encouraging to lose water weight though. Looking for a Weight Loss Buddy -

I don't feel hungry at all on my low carb diet, but I did experience some cravings for carbs today. I wanted a banana in the morning, but I just said to myself, "I can have all the bananas I want after 12 days. Looking for a Weight Loss Buddy -

I'm experimenting with the induction phase of the Atkin's diet to see if it really works. I don't think the Atkin's diet is too healthy because you can't eat a lot of fruit on it, but I'm going to give it a try for 2 weeks to try to lose a few pounds.

If I'm successful I will go for longer than 2 weeks, but no longer than one month. Then it's back to eating a low fat, low calorie diet with lots of fruits and veggies. The long term studies of people who are successful at losing weight and keep it off (the more important factor) show that they eat a low fat diet.

For the short term however, low carb dieters lose about two times the weight as low fat dieters.

Right now I'm hoping to jump start my weight loss for encouragement.

I decided to abandon my 14 day low carb diet today because I was in a bit of a brain fog and didn't know if it was because my brain needed the glucose to function properly. Maybe it didn't like burning ketones.

I'm going back to just counting calories now. It was working just fine, just going a bit slowly. Oh well, I will get to goal eventually. I just have to be patient.

Right now I'm aiming for 1100 kcal/day because my daily average is over 1200 kcal right now and I want to bring it back down to 1200.

Tomorrow I will eat a lot of salad with low calorie dressing.

How is everyone doing right now?

Looking for a Weight Loss Buddy - back up to 200. I wish you'd change the day to the end of the week. My body reacts to activity (such as the salt and water intake from yesterday's being at the stadium) Plus, that way ppl have the week to resolve any issues from their weekends, and won't have to fret and ruin the weekend worrying about the weigh in (I, however don't worry... it just is Looking for a Weight Loss Buddy - ) just my thoughts.

I don't own a scale. I weigh at PT's office. I don't like to weigh, it rarely does me any good (like today.) I need to lose SIZE. I don't care if I weigh 600lbs if I fit into the 10s in the closet Looking for a Weight Loss Buddy -

(((not et al))) Well that was probably mostly water weight. Be sure to drink lots of water and stay hydrated, and if any of the weight was "real" maybe it will stay off????

Just curious about how people are doing. It's been a while since anyone has posted.

I wasn't on Weight Watchers, but I was also trying to lose some weight. I count calories.

November was a really bad month for me. I started binging and purging and I gained a few pounds.

My starting weight was 118.6 lbs. I got down to 108 lbs. Today I'm 111 lbs.

I've starting to count calories once again. I've gotten control of my binging and purging, I hope.

Kill Cravings With These Foods

If you just can't curb the urge to wolf down chocolate or cookies, you should head straight to the kitchen. That's right. Because even though mindless noshing packs on the pounds like no other pastime, some foods can make a definite dent in your need to nibble.

According to registered dietitian Milton Stokes, eating low-calorie, fiber-rich foods before a meal (salads, soup and fruits) may prevent a dieter from submitting to an all out gorge-fest. But some of the best appetite killers are nibbles that might be hiding in plain sight in your kitchen right now:

Nuts:
New research shows the fatty acids in pine nuts initiate the release of an appetite-suppressing hormone called cholecystokinin (CKK). According to Stokes, it’s too soon to tell if these results will stand up. In the meantime, sprinkle pine nuts on your salad or mix them into pesto over whole wheat pasta. Want a more accessible nut? Try almonds. People who consume these nutrient powerhouses lose more weight and fat mass than those who don’t. Why? The cell walls of almonds seem to act as a physical barrier to the total absorption of fat.

Hot Stuff:
Spicy foods have a metabolism-boosting benefit and can dull your taste buds so you're apt to eat less. Even foods that are hot in temperature -- like tea and soup -- may diminish your appetite. Just make sure your soup is tomato or broth-based (not cream!) and your tea isn’t of the sugary variety (beware commercial flavored types like Chai). In fact, if you go green, your tea may actually give your metabolism a boost, too.

Apples:
Apples pack a lot of fiber -- twice as much in every bite as peaches, grapes and grapefruit. Fiber helps turn on the fullness switch and prevents you from overeating. Get into the habit of eating an apple before dinner. Chances are, you’ll eat less of your meal as the fiber starts to kick in.

Milk:
Research shows that dairy foods promote weight loss, but the mechanism isn’t fully understood yet. "It looks like calcium helps break down the fat in cells," says Stokes. "But getting calcium from real dairy foods, like low-fat or nonfat milk or yogurt, help more than taking supplements."

Green Leaves:
Two cups of cabbage, celery or lettuce provides almost no calories. And in most cases, you burn off the greens just by digesting them. Pickles and cucumbers count in this category, too.

If snacking doesn’t do the trick, sniffing might. According to Alan Hirsch, M.D., neurological director of the Smell and Taste Research Foundation in Chicago, just a whiff of green apple, banana and peppermint might help you drop some weight.

Ten Ways to Start or Restart a Low Fat Diet

Once the holidays are over and the guilt finally sets in, you might be thinking about how to start a healthy low fat diet. This is why the New Year is the perfect time to reassess our goals. But perhaps a few months in to the New Year, you're being less careful about what and how much you eat again, and with spring break or summer looming, you'll want to get back on track. For some, however, a low fat diet is not a choice: medical conditions may necessitate a strict low fat, low cholesterol diet.

Whatever your reasons or motivation, here are 10 things you can do to get started or back on track with a low fat diet:

1.) Be realistic. If weight loss is your goal, don’t set yourself up for disappointment or, worse, health problems. Make this a positive experience and start with small, achievable goals. Sustainable weight loss means losing no more than two pounds a week. If you choose to go on a crash diet, your body will ultimately balk: your metabolism will slow down and it will become harder to shed pounds as your poor body goes into preservation mode.

2.) Clear out your refrigerator and pantry. Those leftover holiday pies, cakes, cookies and pieces of fudge should now be tossed, and so should the whipped cream, full-fat cheeses and sour-cream dips. Cast out the seasonal candy, be it Halloween, Valentine's or Easter candy. For a more general sweep of your kitchen, take a look at my article on the low fat kitchen. Remember, you can eat or prepare only the foods you have at hand. You can’t polish off a pint of ice cream that isn’t there.

3.) Restock your refrigerator and pantry with healthy, wholesome ingredients. Again, the low fat kitchen article can give you plenty of ideas. Basically, substitute low fat or fat-free products for their full fat counterparts. Buy whole grain pastas, breads and grains; and stock up with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Try to eat at least nine servings (4 1/2 cups) of these a day.

4.) Monitor portions and serving sizes. Portion sizes have grown ever larger. Examine food labels and nutrition facts, and understand what exactly constitutes a serving size. It’s usually less than you think. Be aware that a food package often contains more than one serving, and that the nutritional analysis label refers to one portion, not necessarily the whole package.

5.) Always eat breakfast Obviously I don't mean doughnuts! As well as being an important source of vitamins and minerals, a good breakfast comprising whole grain cereal with fat-free or low fat milk, fruit and yogurt will keep your blood-sugar levels stable and sustain you until lunchtime.

6.) Drink water, and plenty of it. Water is essential for digestion, and also helps us feel fuller for longer. Sometimes we confuse thirst for hunger, so keep a bottle of water by your side and sip it frequently—you’ll probably end up eating less.

7.) Replace at least one meat dish with a vegetarian meal each week. That’s not an excuse to reach for a box of mac and cheese, however. A hearty three-bean chili might be just the thing, or perhaps some pasta with roasted vegetables.

8.) Eat fish at least once and preferably twice a week. Fish is naturally low in fat, and fish that have higher levels, such as salmon, contain heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

9.) Get moving. It’s one thing to watch our intake of fat and calories, but to complete the transition to a healthier low fat lifestyle, we need to burn calories by doing some regular exercise. You don’t have to become a gym rat or necessarily invest in a fancy treadmill. Find a friend or persuade your partner to join you for a brisk 30-minute walk; exercising with a buddy will help keep you motivated. Again, set realistic goals. There’s no point starting a rigorous regime that you can’t keep up with. Do consult a doctor beforehand, especially if you have been mostly inactive until now.

LINK: http://www.hsn.com/cnt/prod/default....rev=hp!sf!dept

10.) Eat healthy snacks. When you do get an attack of the munchies, make sure you reach for nutritious snacks such as fruit, low fat yogurt, whole grain crackers, air-popped popcorn or raw veggies. An occasional cookie or square or two of chocolate are not the end of the world. Keep them as special treats, though. If you have made over your pantry then it shouldn’t be a big issue.

These basic guidelines will help you eat a low fat diet and lead a healthier lifestyle. You don't need to deprive yourself of anything. Remember, some fat in our diets is actually necessary.
