I used to wear Merle Norman makeup before I became poor. I've been saving for eye shadow and yesterday I stopped in the store and tried on different shades. I must have developed an allergy to their eye shadows. My eyes started matting before I went to bed. I woke up with one matted shut and the other darn close. I have had to use hot compresses all morning to keep them clean.

I have some old drops I used when my eyes were inflammed before. It wouldn't be sterile though... My eyes are fire engine red and the lids are swollen and dark. I look scary! Matted Eyes They burn, too.

Thank heavens I didn't open the new shadow and I can get a refund.

Oh dear, Jan I'm so sorry this has happened to you!

Are you sure it's not "pink eye" though? Sounds like very similar symptoms.

Jan-- Matted Eyes Matted Eyes Matted Eyes

hoping your eyes get better real soon!!!!

Mandy!!!!!!!!! Hi!!!!!!!

No, I'm not sure. But the only thing different I did was use that eye shadow. They weren't hurting or burning or itching before then.

The medicine the Dr. gives me works for pink eye and allergic reactions so I guess it'll all be covered.

No makeup for me for a while.

Hugs,

Jan

Jan, maybe try whatever that hypoallergenic makeup line is, starts with an A, name completely escapes me now that I have the memory of a gnat Matted Eyes.

I hope the medicine you have clears things up in a hurry!

Jan -
Lauren Hutton has good make-up that comes from African and I use it when and if I do apply make-up..... it has a bigger cost up front, but then it last for a long time in between.

Jan~

First of all the hypo allergenic makeup that starts with an A is Almay. and its good if you wear contacts also!

Second of all. Did any of the makeup you tried on your eyes have red dyes in it? You may be allergic to the red dyes. I am allergic to the red dyes in Merle Norman too. I use their makeup also. Watch out for some of the browns, reds of course and purples and pinks. and corals. Matted Eyes

Hope this helps.

I would maybe go to your doctor if you can afford it; since it was an "open" store thing you could have caught something from some other customer with a nasty disease instead of it being an allergy? I'd go make sure your eyes are okay and confirm it is an allergy and not something else, worse that might harm your eyes over time?

I have the memory of a gnat

(((((((((( Candy )))))))))))))

I don't have much of one, either. Trust me on this. I know which one you're talking about. It's called Almay. I'm allergic to it, too. Go figure. Matted Eyes

Oh Beth! I tried on all pinks and corals. I'll bet the red dye was it. The Almay I tried was pink, too. Thank you for telling me about the dye. It makes much more sense now.

Hmmmm...no reds, pinks, corals or browns... That doesn't leave a lot, does it? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! Purple or green just isn't for me!

Hugs,

Jan

Thank you, Perna and that's very good thinking. I'm using those drops and it's working. If I see any worsening at all, I'll call the Dr. right away. My sight is just too precious to risk. I see him next week for a check up, too, but I won't wait that long if it gets worse.

Hugs,

Jan

Hi Jan,
Were you trying shadows in the store from the store's testers? Maybe you picked up something from the tester or brush (if you used one) versus being allergic to the shadows or pigments themselves?

I've used Clinique eyeshadows before, and they are supposed to be pretty good for sensitivity. There still might be pigments that someone is allergic to, but the other ingredients are usually pretty safe.

I'm sorry about your poor eyes. It sounds really uncomfortable.
