Have you had a sleep study done? I actually have mine tonight. When you have a sleep study done they will put a CPAP machine on you during the night to see if it helps you any. The CPAP machine helps force air in.

From what I understand about the mouth pieces is that it keeps your tongue from falling back into your throat. It also keeps your jaw from falling backwards.

An ear, nose and throat doctor is a good place to start if you have sleep apena.

Good Luck,
Monty

They put me on a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine last year when I was in the hospital for 5 weeks. ICK. Sleep Apena - CPAC machine???? I wish you the best of luck. I ended up not being able to tolerate it at all. (Nor did I really need it, if you ask me. The respiratory arrest had to do with the disease process and not with any sleep apnea!)

If you have bad dry mouth from your meds, it's the pits. It will make it 100 times worse.

I hope it works out for you, though it surely didn't for me! :-)

I use a bi-pap machine, a C-PAP machine w/2 levels of air pressure, and I love it! It has greatly improved my sleeping through the night , and consequently has improved my energy level during the day also.

I like to read at night before I fall asleep so the mask I use is the "nasal pillows". It allows me to read and is not confining during the night. Give it a try.

Good luck!

hi freewill,

I used a CPAP for over 10 years. It was wonderful because it allowed me to get refreshing sleep. The day it was delivered I hooked it up and took a nap in my recliner! The mask seemed odd at first but I got used to it easily. The quality of my sleep improved so much. I was very surprised and I felt much better and my sleep was improved much more than I expected! I think you will like it too.

Like with many things, you may need to try different masks/mouthpieces until you find the one you prefer.

I no longer use it since I quit smoking a year and a half ago and lost 90 lbs in the last year. However I keep in close by and used it temporarily when I had to be on narcotic pain meds that caused my symptoms to return.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

You might try the OPAP mouthpiece? It sounds most comfortable to me. But I have no clue, just wish you luck :-)

I wear CPAP also. I have had it for abut 4 years. I had 2 sleep studies one with the mask and one without. The first one was without the mask and the sleep tech told me hey Jan you snore really loud. I was like no duh dude. The next study I wore the mask and it made a huge difference. The nights that I wear it I can tell the difference from the nights I don't. I am still really tired right now but I think that's a different problem. I just had an over night pulse oxygen test done and it showed that the CPAP is doing its job. I wear the mask that goes over my nose and up over my head. I couldn't handle the nose pillows.

Good luck if you decide to get one.

I use a CPAP and nasal aire interface. I think I'd prefer the hybrid interface better.

It took me a while getting used to. I couldn't tolerate a mask (due to past trauma issues.) But, when I'm compliant and use machine every night, I have quality sleep.

My sleep study said I woke up about 100 times a night. I only think I wake up 3 to 5 times a night. I have to remind myself even though I think I sleep "good enough" without the machine, it isn't reality. I need the machine.

I hope you find a mask you feel comfy with . . . make sure you have a good fit.

Good luck.
