My grandma used to have a treadle sewing machine! As kids when we went and visited her she would let us work the machine. At that time we thought it was fun but now days...what work!!

I bought a new sewing machine a couple of years ago and they are so amazing. I got one that has some electronics to it to make those fancy stitches. I love mine once I played with it. I know you will love yours!!

Good luck and happy sewing!!!!

This is a little off topic but do you remember the wringer washer? I used to use one of those until years later when I got an electric washer.

Sometimes the old stuff seems better though.

I do remember the wringer washer!

Those were the days eh, spend ages washing clothes then put them through a mangle! We had a washer board. It was sort of ribbed and you rubbed the clothes on it.

I sometimes would get my fingers caught in the wringer part....OUCH!! that hurt.

I rarely used the washboard but I have. Thank goodness it wasn't on much. That was hard work!!

Are we telling our ages here? hehe

I remember the treadle machine, and the mangle...

And I do still have my washboard! I haven't been using it much, though, although I used to use it very regularly...

Last year, I finally broke down and bought a new sewing machine. My husband says it's worth every penny -- and there were a lot of them involved -- because I don't swear nearly as much when I use it! It's got every bell and whistle.

And all the dials go up to 11!

My father was a saddlemaker.....and to this day a lot of the leather making machines are treadle......I always liked the motion so much.....I used to take the bobbin out and unthread the machine, and just sit there and work the treadle.........it was almost like a meditation.......soothing....in the motion.....my grandmother had one, too......

It must seem quite intimidating, to go from being so connected to the speed of what you were sewing, with the treadle, and then find the speed of electric...!!!.......

I have a few leather sewing machines that scare me when I sew on them....just the rumble they make when you turn them on.....they are so powerful, made to go through such heavy leathers........They are fast.....I have one that I call my little Porche.......

You will enjoy your new machine....the more you use it the more comfortable you will be......and the new things they do with sewing machines is amazing.....they are wondrous tools for creativity......

As for less cussing.....all artists curse, don't they...?..

Blessings to you.....

I've got a treadle upstairs in my hallway. It was my husbands grandma's. And my dads got his moms at his house also. So I am familiar with them. I also have a wringer washer in my basement . not being used atm.. but thats ok.. I like my electric one better. Also have washboards laying around down tehre too. And I got an electric sewing machine about 3 yrs ago. Doing some quilting when i am not busy doing other things. Just love it!!

Very cool allthegirls! sewing machine We had an electric one but it was too much and when we found a treadle one at a market +/- 15 years ago, we bought it and use that instead of the electric. sewing machine I love my treadle one, so soothing when you get the rhythm right.

Oh, you lucky girls!! My mom's old treadle one went by the wayside a long time ago. I've had an electric one she bought me in another lifetime. It's broken down right now and I'd give almost anything to buy a new one with all the fancy stitches! sewing machine sewing machine

What brand is it, may I ask? Just incase I catch the old man in a generous mood. LOL sewing machine
