Happy April 29th. Wow, we're almost into May. Can you believe it? Anyone started Christmas shopping yet? Swollen Glands LOL.

I know most of us aren't doctors here, but just have a question to see if anyone has had something similar or has an educated guess. Swollen Glands

I woke up today with the gland under my right arm sore as heck when I stretch my arm or touch it, and my left groin gland swollen and sore to the touch. To my knowledge, these two glands operate on different parts of the body, so....am I infected all over?? Swollen Glands

I don't feel sick, although I'm tired from looking after my daughter after her jaw surgery. I'm wondering if this could just be a result from the stress of her whole operation/recuperation ordeal? It's been awful for both of us (MUCH more so for her, of course), and we still have another 4+ weeks to go before her jaw will be unwired.

I'm also wondering if it could have something to do with the Effexor XR that I started about 2 months ago. LOVE the med! It's been doing wonders, and I do NOT want to stop it. I don't even have any side effects from it. And it's helped to keep me so much calmer through this ordeal than I normally would have been since I have an anxiety disorder.

Any ideas?? It doesn't make sense to me that those two totally unrelated glands would both be swollen and sore at the same time. Probably just my body's way of saying, " Swollen Glands"......I'm stressed. LOL. Oh, and shhhhhhhh.....but I also have diarrhea. Shhhhhhhhh. Swollen Glands

Thanks, guys.

God bless,
Sandy

Hi Sandy. Have you made a doctor's appointment? The lymphatic system is all connected so there are minor infections and viruses that can cause node swelling in different parts of the body. You should get it checked out, though... just to make sure it isn't something more serious.

There's a mumps outbreak in our area right now. Did you know about that? I send notices out to the university community about it every week. It can sometimes cause swelling in glands other than the parotid glands. Get yourself to a doctor, woman! Hope you feel better soon.

Hey Sandy,

Hard to say really what that could be from ... but if i had to venture a guess i would say that it would probably be from all the stress of the surgery and things that you two have gone through in the past little while. Thats a lot for anyone to go through and so this could just be your body's way of telling you to slow down and try and relax a bit if you can.

There are however other things that it could be from, so like Juliana mentioned, you might want to make a doctor's appointment if it keeps up, or gets worse.

Hope you feel better soon,
Jacq Swollen Glands

Hi Juliana,

Long time since we chatted. I hope you are doing well! I'm not on the Board that much anymore, mainly because of my daughter. Now that she's able to stay in the "sitting-up-and-staying-awake" position for longer periods of time, she HOGS the computer. LOL.

Yes, I heard about the Mumps outbreak at Dal. Probably the worse things these young adults have ever been through yet. Just wait until the women go through childbirth! Lol. Owie.

I had Mumps back in Grade 5. I was so disappointed because it was Walk-A-Thon Day, and we live two houses down from the school. I could see all my friends having fun and getting ready to start the trek. I wanted to go. Jeepers, I only had a couple swollen glands under in my neck and I wasn't sick at all. THEN....da da da DOOM.......you find out what Mumps is all about. Those glands got so swollen and hurt so much that I could hardly turn my head, plus I was sick with fever and not one bit happy anymore. Swollen Glands I was up-to-date on all my immunizations, but I guess the bad guy wanted me anyways. Lol. I have no idea where I got them because no one else at school or home ever got sick.

Then again, I never had Chicken Pox in my life, and my two kids both got it at the same time. My daughter was FAR worse off than my son. She had them in every possible orifice you can think of....EVERY ONE!!!! The doctor had to put her on a tranquillizer because they were so bad that they didn't itch one bit.....they HURT her so badly and she'd be screaming and crying because of the pain. My son, lucky guy that he was, recovered within just a couple days with only a little itchy one here and an itchy one there. But I was around those kids all the time, especially my daughter. I'd be sleeping with her and cuddling with her and just not even giving a hoot if I got Shingles. But you know what? I never caught anything from them! And yet I got the Mumps from some invisible culprit! Grrrr.

I must say that my two recent swollen glands are much better today. They're not really swollen anymore, and only a little sore in thaose areas....if I poke around! Lol. So I think it was probably just a stress reaction. A much better reaction than running around the apartment, screaming in panic over my daughter's difficulties right now. Swollen Glands

Thanks for the concern. Be good to yourself!

God bless,
Sandy

Hey there Jacq,

I bet you're already exhausted from the big move. Then again, you are a young woman with an over-abundance of energy and muscles to spare. Ohhhh, I remember the days! Swollen Glands

Thanks for your response. Yes, I think it was just my body's way of reacting to stress......a far different way than I have been for the past 4 years. I really think the Effexor XR has a lot to do with the apparent calmness with which I handled my daughter's situation. But stress is stress, and it has to exhibit itself somehow. I'll take swollen glands over a slashed wrist any day!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad that I'm not sick, though, because that would mean sending my daughter out to her grandparents' to continue her recuperation. They're in their 70's now, and I don't want to place any undue pressure on them. But I certainly didn't want to give my little girl some sort of infection!! Only 2 more days until we go in for her first check-up with the oral surgeon. Oh, found out they shortened her upper lip as well....that's why there were so many stitches around the inside of her nose. But she says she can feel a tiny edge of the titanium plate sticking through her upper gum. That doesn't sound right. I hope it's not shifting and they'll have to do more work. Oh well, she won't mind missing more school. Lol. Her teachers are very interested in how she is doing, and they are behind her all the way. I think if she failed every subject during the second half of this term (which she WON'T), that they would pass her into Grade 10 anyways. She's an A/B student normally, so they know she would have done fine if not for the surgery.

Anyways, thanks for your concern with my glands. How do I always get back to the subject of my daughter?? Have fun moving, and enjoy your summer. PM me anytime. I still check the Board when I get the chance, but I don't post as much right at the moment.....unless "someone" still happens to be asleep. LOL.

God bless,
Sandy

I know, I'm the same as you. But my mum starts shopping right after Christmas and continues straight through the year. She's TOO organized! Lol.

God bless,
Sandy
