I will start by warning that this may trigger some. When I was 25 my sister died of liver failure, with unknown "viral" origins. Today I was told that I need to see a liver specialist as my liver results from blood testing are very bad. Like they should be 44 and are 186 . I am completely freaking out, and feel i am in a nightmare. Anyone with any experience in liver damage please help.

Only experience was with two family members with liver illnesses.

Since this post, have there been any medical changes or answers for your test results?

Well tomorrow I go for the ultrasound, am a bit afraid. After thought with all this, is I went back to some testing I had in March and my liver enzymes were completely normal. I have since come off my meds, lost weight (which I needed to) about 30 lbs, and really have lived cleaner. So it absolutely doesn't make any sense to me. My GP I went to said it could be Fatty liver (without knowing my earlier test results) ... its wierd- the test result could be wrong- gonna ask to be retested

It is hard but I would wait until you have more information. My mother died of a brain tumor and my husband had to have radiation treatment on his brain a couple months ago and I was thinking the worst too. But they got the problem and he's recovering from treatment fine now. Might not be permanent but now we know what to watch for.

Maybe your coming off your meds threw your liver for a loop and it might take time for it to recover.

I have had positive results and then second tests are "normal". My doctor stated this happens quite frequently. I would make sure they monitor for a period of time. I also have recently had a liver scare with my blood work. Turns out, after a CT Scan, they say it's a fatty liver and I should cut down on cheese, butter and the like. I don't even eat that stuff. So I am trying to lose weight and eat more clean. I'm glad you shared your story. Best of health to you.

I got my ultrasound results and the doc said everything looked perfect. So I guess the lab work was a mistake. Its a touchy topic with me, since I never had proper resolution to why she passed , and what affected her liver. She was around my age, I can't help but worry about this area with the same parents and unknown reasons. Helloitsme, I have been overweight for some times, but have really cleaned up my diet since January. Predominately it involved reducing refined sugars, and wheat. I am hyperthyroid right now so thats probably helping, but have lost a safe amount of weight each month. I think I'm more than halfway there. My doctor had said there was a big possibility of fatty liver too for me, pre ultrasound, he has said its an epidemic ... I'm not totally sold that fat makes fat, but that me. I have been eating cheese and meat and such ... but I don't know about how it settles into the liver.
