For the past few years my Dr. has let me get just the vaginal part, which hurts but is tolerable. But this year she wants me to get the other part too, where you have to drink 32 ounces of water an hour before the test because you need a full bladder. It's agony for me and I'm dreading it so badly. You lie on the table and they press on your bladder. I get the test because of a family history of ovarian cancer and my Dr. recommends it. What can I do to make it easier? Does anyone else get this test? I think pregnant women do but I don't remember being so miserable back then.

I've had it for pregnancy, and I got so miserable with needing to pee, the doc finally let me empty my bladder a bit. It might help to keep thinking you are being wise in being checked out and the procedure won't last too long.
Thanks for this!

I've had them to check for fibroids and post menopausal bleeding. I agree I hate having to have my bladder full, and I'm always afraid I'm going to have an accident and pee on the table.

Not much you can do about it, from my understanding except try to suffer through it.

Have to get pelvic ultrasound and I hate them!

I just want to say that my ultrasound was easy! For the first time ever! They took me early, before I got uncomfortable, so I thought I'd have to go out and sit longer. But, no the ultrasound technician said it was fine! So no problem! The vaginal part didn't hurt either. Now I just have to hope the results are as good as the procedure was.

I get them twice a year. Haven't had the top of uterus one since pregnancy. I'm high risk for ovarian cancer, too.
Thanks for this!

Sorry you're high risk. Did you get genetic testing? I am negative for the gene but my gyne still wants me to see her every 6 months and get the ultrasound every year. I used to get them every 6 months. My Mom died of ovarian cancer.

Insurance won't cover the Bracca since there's noone else in my family, other than my mom who passed away in 2010.

There wasn't anyone other than my Mom either, but insurance did cover it. I think I got the test at least 10 years ago, soon after it was first offered. Maybe they changed the rules or it depends on the insurance. I'm sorry about your Mom.
Thanks for this!

I had to have both vaginal and pelvic ultrasounds done a few months ago, and the vaginal actually bothered me more but I can understand your discomfort because the pelvic wasn't pleasant either... I just tried to focus on my thoughts and not think about it, and clasp my fingers together and focus on that sensation rather than the lower part of my body.

Glad to hear it went well for you this time.

If I am not mistaking I had to have an ultra sound when I was 16 and it hurt. Everything came back normal but then in 2009 I had to have cells burned in my uterus because they were cancerous and been fine ever since.

I too have both tests tomorrow morning and I'm already climbing the walls with anxiety. I CAN'T STAND THE FULL BLADDER, IT'S TORTURE. But it has to be done. Think I will just slam the water closer to my appt rather than a full hour before or I'll die. Does anyone know if they let you empty your bladder before the transvag one is done?

They will if your bladder is too full. Typically they need a certain amount in there for contrast, then they let you empty your bladder and takena second look. At least for me they always have. I did have on tv ultrasound done on an empty bladder too, so that was pretty awesome.

My tech told me to stop drinking out of my water bottle cause it takes 1 hour to get to bladder so I really didn't feel full at all. She said it was full thank god. Best scan ever lol. And here I drank all that every time haha. I purposely didn't start drinking until like half hour before. She was like, "Did you drink all your water an hour ago??" I'm like ummmm. She goes, "You will have to reschedule then I'm backed up today." Anyway it's done and she said I'll live but doc called and there is cyst on left ovary, she could not see the other but I have pain there a lot so waiting on the CA -125 to come in.
