Last night while laying on the couch icing my knee I was looking at my legs. I realized I have a ton of bruises and I don't know how they got there. I am wondering if my iron level is off and its causing me to bruise easily. I am also scared because my mom's legs are all bruised up and its because she has phlebotis and her legs swell and unswell a lot. I called my GP this morning before I left for school and he didn't call me back before I left so I am hoping that when I get home there will be a message on my machine. I noticed a huge bruise on my upper thigh this morning. I look like I've been in a huge fight and I can't wear the shorts and skirts like I want to because of all the bruises. Do any of you know what could be causing all this bruising?

I'm a bruiser, too! I certainly can't diagnose you, and recommend getting examined by a doctor, but I can tell you what diagnosis I had in the past. I was determined to be anemic, and the doctor would give me Vitamin B6 (or possibly B12, I forget which for sure) shots weekly (I think it was weekly, possibly a little less often). He said the shots worked a little better than vitamin pills, but I'm sure pills would work fine. Anyway, I might be anemic again, because I still bruise easily. I certainly don't have the best nutrition.

Try not to worry too much, because it might be something simply fixed with some vitamins. I get big bruises and little bruises, usually not knowing how or where I got them. I once had a pattern of bruises that looked like someone had grabbed me with their fingertips (which is a strange way to grab someone), and a friend got mad at me, claiming I was denying being abused by someone, LOL! But I wasn't abused at all.

Several weeks ago, I had a big, ugly bruise on my stomach (they're usually on my legs). I think I got it from bending over a box or possibly from our bathroom sink (I tend to lean against it when washing my hands). It was dark black and blue, purple, red, and all colors of the rainbow! Ick!

Ask your doc to order a complete blood count (CBC). Easy bruising can have to do with low red and platelet counts, too.

I have a clotting disorder and I bruise at the drop of a hat -- you might also ask for some tests for those. There are a variety of them, but usually can test for all on one blood draw.

I got a call back late from my doc yesterday and I have an appointment to see him at 3:20 today. I am hoping I get out of class a bit early as I hate to rush and can't stand to be late anywhere. I will let you know what he says. I am wearing shorts today though so I can show him my legs without having to strip.

How did your appointment go. I was wondering if you use asprin very often. I know that it can cause blood thinning which can also cause bruising......just a thought.

I saw my doc and he did a CBC on me and it came back normal. He did say that 3 of my medicines can thin my blood so I am electing to not take the headache medicine and we switched that one. I am noticing that the bruises are still there but good thing is he decided it wasn't a blood clot. The bruises are less noticeable but they are still there.
