for a long time i had really bad skin crawling when i laid down to go to sleep...its never been that bad...and now its disappeared thank God. But only to be followed by feeling like im jumping out of my skin....to get rid of this feeling temporarily i have to grit my teeth and shake my head and actually shake out my body...if that makes sense...it happens at any part of the day and mostly at night...making it impossible for me to sleep because im constantly having to shake and move to get that feeling out...its not restless leg syndrome mainly because its not in my legs and there are alot of other symptoms from RLS that i do not have....but this whole jumpy skin feeling is bugging the crap outta me ...anyone have any ideas?

Formication: an abnormal skin sensation similar to that of insects crawling over or within ones' skin.

Some Comon causes:
diabetic neuropathy

Many drugs/medications - cocaine, amphetamines, alcohol withdrawal, ritalin and some other presciption meds.

Hello (((INA))). It could also be urticaria an allergic reaction to food or outside reactives. Urticaria can be caused from detergent, hair spray, or even food. My trigger is chicken that causes itching and burning feeling. I have to take benadryl when it happens although you should see a Dr to get diagnosed properly. There is also a contributary to a lack of iron causing itching and crawling sensations as well from anemia and menstrual problems. Ihope things get better for you soon. Take care. Soidhonia
