How long does it take to work for weight loss? I'm guessing more than 13 days which is how long I've been on it.

How much weight are you looking to lose?

I just googled "metformin how long does it take for weight loss?"and "how quickly will you lose weight on metformin?"

for some answers and one source said it takes 6-12 months to lose weight, along with a healthy diet. But look it up to see for yourself.
Thanks for this!

My doctor just wants me to lose 16 pounds. I did google it and saw the 6-9 months thing. I was just wondering if it actually worked for anyone.

I do need to work on my diet and move around more.

You said in another post that your kidney numbers were high? I think my mother lost weight following a kidney diet. But it is really restrictive. You dont want to be on it unless you really have to be on it. Like the only cereal you can eat is puffed rice. Not rice krispies, just plain puffed rice. Bland as heck. She wouldnt follow it when i was living with her, but i guess later in life her kidneys got worse and she had to follow it. At first her numbers improved when she stopped taking all the supplements my brother was making her take. And her dr was yelling at ME because he thought it was my fault! But she never listened to me the old hag!

I'm surprised the doc put you on Metformin to lose just 16 pounds. You should be able to lose the 16 lbs with healthy eating and exercise, no?

Do you have diabetes?

Metformin did not work for me for weight loss, but I am taking it to prevent diabetes and possibly for longevity.

You definitely would not see weight loss on it within two weeks, even if it ultimately helps you lose weight, which is not that likely.

It is a very fashionable drug these days as it is believed to convey longevity benefits on non-diabetics (which is debatable), but given your young age, this does not seem to be an area of interest for you yet.
Thanks for this!

I have noticed an overall decrease in my appetite and I'm not gaining weight. I've just been maintaining. Yeah he put me on it to lose 16 pounds. He is an endocronoglist but I don't have diabetes. I see him for other reasons.

He just kinda freaked out when he saw my weight gain (most of it is in muscle which is why I only need to lose 16 of what I gained) and he was like "yeah you need to be at a starting dose of 1000mil of metformin once a day and I also need you to do a coritsiol test to check for a weight gain hormone imbalance and if its positive we gotta run some tests." Idk. Something alarmed him.

But so far based on just 2 weeks my appetite is down at least. I last ate about 7 hours ago and I'm still super full. So maybe theres hope.

Interesting...

I would ask your endocrinologist more about your health status and his logic for using metformin so that you have a better idea what is going on with your health.

I'm sorry if this isn't something you want to hear @Mountaindewed
But you really should research metformin. I've been on it for close to 20 yrs for type 2 diabetes.
They are now doing studies and finding out it can be a cause for cancer. Have you opened the bottle and smelled it? It's got a fishy odour. I swear I have body odour from it. Also it is very hard and irritating to the lining of your stomach. It's your choice but I'm concerned for people who turn to this drug for weight loss. It causes fatigue and sometimes diahrrea.

Honestly, I was on it for 1.5 months and I actually gained 5 pounds. I forgot to take it today for the first time and this is the best I've felt in a long time regarding my GI symptoms and I got a ton of stuff done outside the house. So idk.

I plan on getting a Fitbit during Prime Day and I'm hoping to get a VR headset for christmas so I can do some work out videos and boxing and stuff with it.
