As most of you know I had bariatric surgery 3 years ago. Well I'm at a bit of a plateau right now due to the fact I can't exercise because I have tendonitis in my knees. I start pt on monday and was told that will help some. Well I was doing good at not eating and only eating 1-2xs a day. The last couple of days though I ate 3xs a day and have gained 3 pounds. I am doggin on myself because I have gained these pounds back. I am supposed to eat 3xs a day and so I'm not doing anything wrong by eating 3xs a day. So how do I deal with the fact I gained. I feel so bad and guilty that I gained that I want to quit eating again.

I wonder if those three pounds are a normal fluctuation for you? Like water weight, etc? Is there exercise you can do that will be gentle for your knee....swimming? stationary bike, maybe?? It's important to eat, and eating 3x/day is far from excessive! I wonder if you can fill up on high density/low calories foods like fruits and veggies and beans? Good luck. I'm sorry you're feeling discouraged. Remember - gaining 3 pounds is NOT the same as gaining 20, or 50, or 100 pounds. Don't panic. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

buggie are you going to the wls site I sent you? I have found it to be great support for weight loss. the people there are wonderful. as you know it is not how many times you eat too it is what you eat and how much at a time. I go to my first seminar this coming weekend to see about getting mine done! hang in there hon.

It's not just eating, it's drinking as well. You drink many sodas or anything? I don't normally drink sodas but had a couple Pepsi's yesterday and they had more calories/carbs/sugars than almost any of my other food (scary when a couple sodas has as much "weight" as a piece of meat)! Maybe the amounts or kinds of things you're eating are too much? I'm not doing much exercising but I'm still losing well, haven't gained any.
I would remind myself of how much my clothes sizes have changed (I threw out 3 bras today because they are too big :-) and maybe go out and buy myself a new item in the next lowest size or current size if it's smaller than I started with. I'm excited because I'm getting into my old clothes of 3-5 years ago and it's like having a whole new wardrobe! Too, I'm getting more space in my dresser drawers, LOL.

Hi!
I'm not quite sure how things work with bariatric surgery.. but I've lost about 125 lbs on my own.. and I've observed a pattern in the last 10 months. #1. Carbs don't just put weight on me.. it does it FAST! I know it can't be actual fat, so I'm guessing it's a fluid reaction. #2. This is a biggie.. cause I'm a freak with fluid gain. I've learned that when our fat cells drain, fluid rushes into them to make up the void. The scale will tell me that I'm 3 lbs down and the next day I'll be 5 lbs up! Now.. we ALL know this can't be fat. Eventually, the 5 lbs comes off and THEN some. I know how down I can get with the fluctuations.... makes me just wanna pull my hair out - but I sit myself down and say "self... this is but a mere pebble in the road". Sit down and take a good look at what you're eating. If it's all on plan, just keep on keepin' on with it.. don't give up. Check out: www.Obesityhelp.com |

I've been to Obesity help...I posted the same question there too. I also talked to my mom who pointed out to me that wonderful Aunt flo is here for a visit and I didn't put two and two together. I always gain a bit when she is here. I'm also a bit constipated but am working on that LOL. I think when those two things go away that I will lose plus I hope. I am supposed to see my gastro's office this week to talk to them about me continuing to get constipated and then diahareaa I may have IBS. So if that can be solved maybe I can be on a more even keel. Thanks for all your responses.

It must have been water weight from Aunt Flo because she is gone now and I have lost it plus 2 pounds. WOOHOO!! So all that worrying plus getting on to myself was for nothing. I need to get out of that cycle of getting on to myself for things out of my control. I guess I still have stuff to work on in therapy.
