I had a consultation with a sleep specialist. He was very nice. We talked about music - I teach piano and he was in orchestras as a kid. Anyway, he feels pretty sure I have sleep apnea and possibly narcolepsy. So I have to go do the studies. I don't mind the apnea sleep study, but for the narcolepsy naps studies, I would have to go off all my OCD medications! I can't DO that. And he was sympathetic to that. So we are putting it off. When I tried even decreasing my Paxil in the past, I became extremely obsessive and couldn't sleep at all. It really developed into pure O. My OCD is on the severe side. Maybe treatment for sleep apnea will be enough to improve things. I hope.

Does anyone else fall asleep without meaning to during the day? I mean, just fall asleep. And dream while napping? These were my symptoms that made the doctor think I have narcolepsy. Of course, I had sleep paralysis too. And problems waking up - alarms don't work. Anyone else have these problems?

Hi am sorry to hear your sleeping patterns are off.

I am anemic so I go through something similar.
My symptoms are very deep sleeps, not waking up well (need to be shaken a few times to wake from sleep), and taking short naps in the afternoons.

These symptoms occur when my blood count is not balanced. At which point I know I need more iron and B-complexes.

Just thought I'd mention that one, as it is a very simple test to have done and rules out being anemic.

Hope you feel better soon.

One of my friends had major energy problems. She would fall asleep without warning... even when she was driving. The doctor prescribed Effexor for her, but that didn't really do much. Finally, she went to a sleep clinic, and she found out that she has sleep apnea. Now she has a machine that helps regulate her breathing at night, and she doesn't fall asleep during the day any more. I don't think she dreamed when this happened, though. ... although, I never thought to ask her.

Colors: Actually, I did have anemia on a blood test a few months ago. And I do have deep sleep. hmm

Obsids: My doctor thinks I have sleep apnea. I don't know. I might.

Today I napped for three hours. I slept last night for 10 hours. I have to wait until February to get tested. I guess I have to put off any ambitious activites for a while, huh?

I did have a sleep study done, found that I do not have apnea, but I think I might have Narcolepsy. I fall asleep at odd times during the day, maybe just for a few minutes at a time. I think I do dream then, too. I haven't been tested for Narcolepsy yet, though. My doc was more concerned with apnea.

I do sleep alot during the day, sometimes for a couple of hours at a time. Even after I sleep at night, I'll wake up for a few minutes, go potty, smoke, and then go back to sleep. This pattern repeats itself many times throughout the day until I HAVE to get up (ususally in the afternoon).
