So... how do the rest of you cope with sleeping???
I take meds.. that knock me out... but I find as the time gets closer.. to having to go to bed.. I just want to put it off.. stay up for days at a time... not take the meds... dread... dread.. and more dread sets in... the nightly struggle I call it.. I watch the clock... 11:00.... 12:00... 1:00... and then.. I put my foot down.. and swallow the meds... have made it a rule (alters).... if I don't sleep... I don't have the nightmares... seems like a good deal to me...but then it catches up.. the lack of sleep.. and I have gotten to the point of hallucinations... and.. I refuse to drive.. if I don't sleep... cause... it isn't safe... the rest of my life like this... grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.. the choice.. sleep = nightmare.. no sleep = getting sick.... I have never... ever.. to my knowledge had a night without severe nightmares.. cause I have had them since I was tiny.. I wonder.. what it is like to just sleep.. and dream??? I asked my son.. and best friend... and they just dream... some... and they think my question is so "odd".... yes, I know as my best friend pointed out.. I am lucky I can sleep with meds.. it could be much worse.. but.. I think tonight.. just tonight.. I am going to stay up... I dread sleep too much...I will sleep tomorrow night cause Tues is therapy day... |

I, too, take meds to sleep. I have tried so many of them and finally found one that is working. I don't usually dream on them or if I do I don't remember them.
I know what you mean, though...sleep is scary! I hope you are able to find some peace and sleep tomorrow. Sleep is good for the body and mind in order to function. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() BJ

Hi freewill, I used to take medication - it didn't prove useful, after my subsequent mental breakdown due to sexual assault I had the most horrific nightmares (sometimes occasionally do even now). But as I'm retired and spend my time exclusively in my home, I suppose I can afford to lose some sleep without it afffecting my next day, too much. However, Freewill, one must sleep period. Nightmares or not. I truly empathise with your dilemma. I personally usually stay up half the night, or wake-up at say 2am having got 3 hours sleep and then read or write for the rest of the night. The worst thing is to "force" oneself to sleep: but that's just my view, I may be wrong. I can only go on my experience. I recognise that sleep, nightmares or not, is absolutely ESSENTIAL. Let us know how you get on, please, freewill.....good luck.

yeah sleep absolutely sucks because of the nightmares... but you need it... and if I don't sleep or not enough eventually the flashbacks and panicattacks will be worse instead... at least for me..
Maybe you can ask your t if you can try another med... I heard some are supposed to help with nightmares as well... Maybe one of them will do that for you too. Worth a try maybe? Blue
