First of all, make sure your IQ is higher than 69 but lower than 119. I was denied partly because my IQ is higher than 69. I thought about all the people I know that are on disability who don't have low IQ's and remembered that most of them had IQ's of 120 or above. So, basically, you can't get it unless you're retarded or a genius!
Any time you are out around other people AT ALL, Social Security considers it an "active social life," and disabled people are not allowed to be involved with any activity that includes or involves other people, even if it's something that a doc suggests you do, such as group therapy. So make sure you: 1. go to the grocery store when needed (because we all know that going shopping is really a social event) 2. go to A.A. and/or N.A. if you need too, because just as above, those are really social activities 3. if your therapist suggests you to get involved in group therapy, by all means, DO IT---because the judge knows that really means "Let's go PARRT-AY!!" Oh! and don't forget to clean your bathroom because, as we all know, no one who has ever been disabled has ever cleaned a bathroom in their entire life! And make sure you rub it in to your therapist when your meds are working for you, because if you were really disabled, your meds wouldn't work. ALSO: disabled people never benefit from following doctor's orders or suggestions, and they never have a good moment. ![]()

I'm sorry! I've heard that it takes a lot to get approved for benefits. Don't give up! Keep trying. I have a friend that tried four times before he was able to get benefits and they made he go to all sorts of doctors and jump through hoops before they finally approved him. It's very sad how that works against people who really need the help. Hang in there!

Oh, and I forgot! Make sure you have some sort of religious beliefs that way the judge can assume you go to church every week (even if you really don't) and we all know that a "real" disabled person doesn't ever go to church--because, well, you know, that would be just too social.
Make sure you trick the doctors into writing in your chart that you aren't supposed to lift more than five pounds (because of a hernia and severe back problems) just so you can brag to the judge that you can really carry around 20 pounds like it was nothing. (I was actually accused of doing that by the judge. In her letter she stated that I actually conned the doctors into thinking that I could only lift 5 pounds, but that I bragged to her-the judge-that I could really carry around 20 pounds like it was nothing.) ![]() And remember that you are only disabled until you actually apply for disability. The judge told me that I did show signs of being disabled for the year before I applied, but I suddenly got better afterwards! ![]() Yet, WE are not supposed to perjure ourselves.

And if you admit past drug use....god forbid you actually get benefits directly deposited to you.

I got denied because they said I was still eligible to work as a truck driver even though it is illegal for me to work on the medications I am on. I am also recently diagnosed diabetic and that is a no no for driving truck. I was making a 6 figure income before I quit because I was becoming a danger to myself and others out on the road not because I wanted to sit at home and collect this huge payment for Social security lol.

I've heard so many carry on about how you can get "so much more" on disability than from a job, and that that's why there are "so many people applying for it." I was told by SS that if I ever did get it, it would be 340 for disability and 370 from SSI, making a total of a whopping 710 a month! That would barely cover my mortgage! And I have made more than that working a minimum wage job, so why would I want to quit to barely cover my mortgage?

I would get almost $1500 if it is approved. I want it so I can go back to school and not just have to live off my wifes income.

I know this is a "joke" thread (in a way) but did you have a lawyer to help you with the hearing?

IQ should certainly have ZERO to do with an ability to work. (I am waiting on my own claim as well). I am so very sorry you were treated this way; it's hard to understand how they could be so rude to you, esp. when you were prepared with a lawyer. I really hope you are able to get the help you deserve.
My lawyer already told me that so much depends on the judge, which is really unfortunate. It sounds like yours was awful. ((Safe hugs to you))

I have 3 ruptured discs and I put down that I can lift 20lbs. Which is not much. But I was on about 10 diff meds including ones I can't drive on. When it came to addiction I said I got a dui in 1995. My current pdoc wrote in addiction which makes me nervous, but he also added 2 more disorders. I'm sorry you had to go before the judge. It sounds to me that they're really weeding ppl who are deserving out bc these benefits are broke.
