So basically:
My mom really wants me to live in a hotel because everything is already included, but I can't afford the thousands of dollars it's going to cost a month. I would sort of pick an apartment, but she doesn't want me doing that either. So what the heck do I do?!?! This has caused many arguments and I'm beginning to lose my patience, I can't take it anymore. |

I'm sorry that you're being put through this ShantheArtist, I really am
![]() It makes no sense to me what so ever that your mother would place this anxiety and pressure on you when you have clearly stated that you can not afford the funds for this. To me it seems that you have done your best to reach some sort of middle ground and have even tried to compromise with the suggestion of an apartment. So I'm not sure entirely why it is that your mother can't see your point of view. I just want to acknowledge the difficulty of your current situation and say that I hope that you are able to sort something out that serves you well in the the long run ![]() Best wishes moving forward. |

Seems like she is concerned for your safety, maybe? Perhaps a roommate in an apartment? BELIEVE ME you DO NOT want to end up thousands of extra dollars in debt with student loans because of this. You need to go as cheap as is feasible. Good luck.

College dorms and apartments geared towards college students usually are all utilities paid.

Maybe I'm missing some back story, but what about living in a dorm? Dorms usually either include meals or you can add a meal plan. That way you get all the services you would in a hotel, but at a fraction of the cost.

I'm confused as well. By "everything included," do you mean utilities? It's true that most motels/hotels will not charge you for utilities, but it's not a nice way to live for 4 years. Most people who live in hotels instead of an apartment do so because in the short term it can sometimes be cheaper than an apartment if you do not have money for a security deposit, etc. Over the long term, however, it can actually be more expensive, and as I said, it is not a nice way to live. Essentially you would be homeless.
What are your mom's objections to an apartment?

Go with the apartment idea. A hotel is not a healthy environment for a young adult. I lived in one for a nunbercof months. I don't recommend it.
I actually think a dorm is a great idea. Is that an option? If you're paying, it's your call. |

The cheapest living that have found in school has been in the dorms. It helped in the beginning to meet other students and offered a good opportunities to learn without distractions.
I have also lived both in apartments/condos for school and in a hotel that converted several floors for college students with all inclusive packages. Apartment vs Hotel Advantages: depending sometimes it was less or more expensive at the hotel vs the apartment depending on what is included such as meals, utilities, laundry, and parking/transportation. The hotel offered all inclusive plus security which was a bonus in the town I was in at one point that did not have the other places I lived. Don't discount the value of living near other students though. The apartment/condo was nice because I could control costs for meals and transportation. It also was more private and not as many transient people, feeling more secure for safety reasons. Disadvantages: both can be isolating over the dorms if there are not other students around. Costs can add up quickly for both either paying upfront or as you go. The dorms with a meal plan are really the only way to cap your costs. Cost - really get into the specifics of the cost for everything to figure out where you will spend your money to know if all included is really worth it if it is a hotel that offers this then apartment living may very well be cheaper but once you add up rent, meals, utilities, laundry, and transportation, which is less? It is not worth going into significant debt over housing, the stress is not worth it. Good luck finding what works best for you and best wishes in school. ![]()
