My view of people with NPD traits, is that although we act like we're superior, we actually have an inferiority complex, and we are very sensitive.
My own view is that all people with NPD traits were severely damaged somehow, and that the traits we exhibit are a defense mechanism. A mechanism that can be tough to change, unfortunately.
I do want to change and get better in ways that make it possible to enjoy friendships. I don't have to have many friends, just 1 or 2 would be fine by me.

My own experiences have convinced me that it is very difficult to figure out for myself where my "real" problems lie. As difficult as it may be, I need to talk to a mental health professional to help me be a little more objective.
I was seeing one, and then I stopped until now. But, I've made a new appointment, so next week I'm seeing someone again. Yeah, I've experienced the bad side of people I would say my whole life. So, my view of people is not great unfortunately. I've had more bad experiences than ones where people were good or friendly with me. Also, because I'm a quiet guy that tends to lurk in the shadows a bit, and do my own thing, not talking much, I would say I observe a lot more than others would. I've seen things about people that I don't think others have, and that I don't think I was supposed to see. I honestly believe that other's opinions about people are only so positive because they've never seen the things I've seen. I also know how betrayal by your closest friends, and what being used, feels like. It's been happening my entire life.

I didn't even see it as narcissistic although I can see how it could be construed as such.

I just saw it like that friend that decides it would be an awesome idea to 'blow up' your wall with one word posts.

An amusing sideline that may just annoy your friend in the process lol

So many are intrigued by you.
Not too many can figure you out.
You are a complete a$&hole and don't even know it.
You humor yourself better than anyone else can.
Outside world sees you as a god
Strangers tell you that your special
And so on......

When you really believe everyone owes you something.
When you look back at your therapist and say what a dumb fu$@er in your head while you grin in disbelief.
When your therapist goes on for like 10 minutes and they end of with now do you understand? Then say no and explain to them why it doesn't make sense and that their wrong!!

Why do you bother going? It sounds like a waste of time.

So if you proudly admit to being an a*hole and revel in that fact you probably aren't a narcissist?

Shakespeare I have stopped going to therapy many many months ago because of the feeling of wasting my time.

Bette key words were when you are but don't realize it. Not reveling in it just being myself in those times. Possibly your assessment is correct and I'm just wasting my time here too.... Oh Betenoire you are always so good to me

Have to admit am thoroughly confused lol

I was just wondering if a narcissist would actually admit to being an a*hole? Especially an unaware narcissist? Seems it would go against the grain of perfection? But is being an a*hole really something that would be considered a flaw?

Sorry. I'm trying to learn and understand. Maybe i can figure myself out along the way.

Why do you have a blank black block now as an avatar? You had a picture there before (hot stuff I might add ). Is it now because your looks are too good for my (sorry, I suppose I should share you), our eyes?

An unaware one probably would not realize that they are an as$%ole. Maybe somewhat misunderstood at times, wondering why people aren't getting them. As I look deeper into myself after being AWARE I know some of the things I do and why. Like I have said many times the road is long and winding, some will stay true to course while many will detour or track back. At the end we all go to the same place its the now that we shall decide which way to move. Broken and screwed up yet I still have so much fun at times. BTW I like you Bete!!!!

I went for about a year to two Ts. That year of time felt like a complete waste. I have written here before in regards to why and so on so I will not do it again. I guess I was not fortunate to meet my match yet which does make it difficult to start over again.

What are you looking for in a therapist? What do you hope to gain from therapy?

You know you're a malignant narcissist when people know you're a narcissist and they keep trying to finding some way to damage or shatter your ego depending on how much they dislike you, but they fail miserably and you laugh in their faces.
Thanks for this!

Hi there,
I have not been diagnosed nor do I believe I have narcissistic personality disorder, HOWEVER, I certainly have many of the traits. I have read some really good replies to this but have to say the very first one is so"spot on" it isn't even funny! The only difference for me would be I would have to substitute '*****' for Goddess. Good topic with some good answers for sure.
Thanks for this!
