Has anyone tried guided or self-hypnosis in an attempt to alleviate OCD, depression and/or trouble letting go of unpleasant past life events and traumas? Any success?

I saw a hypnotist back when I was a teen for my panic disorder (not specifically for OCD), and it helped to learn some relaxation techniques, but I can't say it did anything for my OCD.

Doctor have said to my mum (she has ocd as well as me) it is so hard for a ocd person to be put in hypnosis because they are all ways thinking about germs or it that door locked right of something like that and to be put in a hypnosis you have to relax but people like us never relax.

I've tried self-hypnosis and hypnosis with a T. I never felt like I was truly relaxed enough for it. I thought it would be like being in a dream, but most of the time I couldn't do it. Although, it has half-way worked at times. Then at times, I just fell asleep. I still try sometimes though. It does help me relax a little.

My T hypnotizes me. It helps a short while, especially with anxiety and feeling safe. There are things hypnotist can do to help you "train" yourself to be more receptive to trance, esp. deep trance. It can take time though. Still some people (not diagnosis, but people) can't easily be hypnotized, I think. You'd just have to try it. I also do a lot of self hypnosis (meditations, guided muscle relaxation etc.)
They relieve symptoms for me for a while. Again, it has taken me a lot of practice to relax in it (guided mediation). I use Kaiser permanente and UCLA mediation podcasts, and a podcast recorded for me by my T. This is my experience, hope it helps give some ideas. (I have major depressive disorder, anxiety, and prob PTSD-so similar issues.) |
