Hi
Every single day that involves homework or writing a paper also includes my irritating habit of writing and rewriting, erasing and rewriting...it's like some letters or words just don't "feel" right, as if I don't like the way they are written. I've had this for a long time, probably about two years. You should see me try to fill out a hand-written test! I wonder if my teachers suspect that something is up when they see I've erased and rewritten the same letter in a blank several times...I guess I'm just sick and tired of this. I don't know if it's OCD or not...I used to have worse symptoms where I would have to count things do stuff like reread the same line in a book a number of times. I don't really notice these much anymore, it's just this stupid writing thing...can anyone help me? Or maybe tell me if this sounds like OCD? I don't know if this matters, but I already was diagnosed with other anxiety disorders a couple years ago, GAD and social phobia. So maybe I'm predisposed to OCD behavior? I don't know. Anyways, thank you so much everyone for your help.

I do the same thing and have OCD so sorry, but I think you've got a nice case of OCD lol. I don't have much advice for you I am sorry, because we can't really stop our OCD (unless maybe if you took medication for it, but I won't) so it might just be something you have to live with. I've learned though, don't fight it. Just let it be, because when you fight it that's when it gets worse and sometimes I don't even notice it if I don't fight it and don't worry about it.
By the way, it can also be caused with concentrating problems. I don't have ADD or ADHD that I know of, but sometimes I find it hard to concentrate which is why I have to read lines in a book several times over and over. |

Thanks ED
I'm going to ask my T about it when I see her tomorrow, because I think you could be right...I'd be more convinced if it presented itself in more ways than this one single symptom, but I know it's true because I just can't stop it... ugh, so annoying. But thanks lots for the information ![]()

I agree it sounds like OCD, but there absolutely is something you can do about it, and I am not talking about medication. I am talking about Exposure Response Prevention Therapy, a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My son suffered from severe OCD and this therapy literally saved his life. I would advise finding a therapist who has experience and training in this type of therapy...........that is very impolrtant. Good Luck!

Hey Indie,
It does sound OCD like. The thing w/ OCD symptoms is that they can change over time. (those sneaky buggers). OCDTalk is right about the exposure and response prevention therapy. It is considered very effective. I hope you and your T are able to figure this out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have exactly the same thing, where a word just doesn't feel 'right', so I'll have to cross it out and rewrite it, and sometimes I'll have to rewrite whole essays several times simply because they don't feel right, and it's kind of difficult during exams where you only have a limited amout of time
