I have been so good with not cutting of late for what seems like the longest of times..............BUT, i have a thing about pulling my hair out, started a few years back and I go through stages of doing it obsessively and it takes everything Ihave to make myself stop. Its like its a little competition or something, standing infront of the mirror and snapping hair out of my scalp...........anyway, I notice of late I have become very unafraid of pulling out my hair in public..........will be having a conversation with someone and hello, there goes another hair.............I think its a good thing that I don't hide it because I feel that secrecy just feeds things............................however, I don't want to end up with massive hairless patches. Does anyone else have understanding of this???????

Yes, this is trichotillomania.
I lived with a woman for 6 months or more who had it really bad. She didn't have any hair and had to wear wigs all the time.

Can you try to NOT pull your hair for 21 days straight? - for all habits take at least 21 days with out to break the habit and to form a retrained mind. LoVe, Rhapsody - ![]() |

One way to break the habit is to wear gloves so that you can't grab the hair without thinking about it to take off the gloves.
Good luck! I do know people who had trichotillamania and did break the habit. Rap

I've been pulling bits out most of the day.........its weird because it doesn't feel bad or anything, it feels quite soothing....it doesn't consume me.
Thanks Rapunzel for the gloves idea, its nearing winter here, so I could certainly get away with it.
