i just want to tell everyone who suggested things, cared about and supported me thru this hair thing...things are better. i finally figured out a way to do hair that doesn't involved cutting or anything like that.

i condition it heavily and let it dry naturally to prevent frizz. then i take the biggest curling iron there is and roll it. it looks pretty good. trying to use the flat iron was making it look dead and fried. it's alot of work but it looks like me again. i wanted easier, but excited with making it work!

thank y'all so much!

love,

kd

what a bunch of sharp ladies, eh? it is pleasing to read that you've found something agreeable.

you know what just popped into my head? preening teens! how much time spent doing hair and makeup. this could be a positive if the lot of work is shared amongst those who want to be involved....maybe??

or maybe I breathed in too many fumes from the two stroke today out in the yard. *cough*

it is always an education reading here with what folks share. thank you for including us in your journey.

I'm glad things are better w/ your hair. Some people think it's so frivolous. Me, I need my hair. I need it to look halfway decent (to mask how I really feel inside). So bad hair days do create a mess for me. I totally understand. I'm so glad it's working out well for you.

Hey Kimmydawn I may be a bit late replying here, but I just wanted you to know I do hair in a full service salon and have well over 20 years experience. I would be more than happy to give advice to you or anyone in this subject.
I'm glad you found something that works for you.

roxxy, thank you so much! that's good to know! i have such thin, fine hair and hadn't had a perm in 12-15 years so i thought i would get a "body" perm. i have enough natural wave that i can scruch and make it look like a body perm, but it takes a while. i want easier. so, i went to the salon and fixed it the way i wanted it to look. she fried me! frizzy tight curls hair i walked into my house with a mcdonald's bag over my head hair i was so ashamed and looked like a freak.

everyone said she used the wrong rods (white). i dunno. she just messed me up. i'm using the big, huge curling iron and can do ok now, after massive conditioning. also, the front row (bangs) now feels like a man's stubble hair she really did a horrible job hair

thank you so much! any advice would be appreciated.

Kimmydawn, I have pretty fine hair too, and it seems to get all fried on the ends if I go too long without a trim. My stylist said to get an intensive conditioner (the kind that says to leave it for 10-15 minutes) but told me to leave it in as long as possible, 1-2 hours if not more if I have the time. Maybe that's something you could try.

I'm so sorry your hair took such a beating from that perm.

OMG Kimmydawn. There are so many ways a perm can go wrong!
First you have to have healthy enough hair. If you have delicate hair that's color treated and especialy hilighted, it may not be able to stand going thru the melt-down involved. I have turned away many people wanting perms because I know the hair wont survive.
Also using too small rod, too strong solution, leaving it on too long, bad wrap job. All those things in combo or alone can wreck your hair! I'd be willing to guess you had most of those things happen.
I'm so sorry you have your hair destroyed. Thank God it grows!
Ya'know back in the 80's that's all we did was premanents, there for your older stylist should have plenty of knowlege on perming hair, as in my case. I do probably 90% of the perms that come into our salon because of my experience. The demand isn't there today so the younger stylist don't get the experience. Not only that, we are doing way more with color than we did back in the 80's and you have to factor that in.

For now the best thing you can do is keep it as short as you can stand it till it grows out. hair hair
