OCD?

Although I was diagnosed with OCD back when I was institutionalized, I haven't read much about it, because it has been drowned out by all the other issues I have, and from what I know it is difficult to make the distinction between symptoms of OCD and Asperger's Syndrome.

For whatever reason, I have always had this obsessive need for everything to be symmetrical and in straight lines, and it can sometimes cause me issues. It's not as bad as it used to be, but the need for it is still there, and it can still cause me some difficulties throughout the day. Currently, one of the more noticeable symptoms of this is with my eye-glasses; I detest that my face is crooked and they won't sit on me evenly! (I tried contacts - that didn't work…) It's not above me to sit in front of a mirror and use a measuring tape to determine if my glasses are sitting evenly on my face. But it doesn't end there. If I had more control of the decor in our house, it would all be symmetrical and in straight lines, or as much as I possibly could. Even outside the house, I can fixate on straight lines, whether it be in sidewalks, offices, etc. If I could, my entire world would be symmetrical, even-numbered, 90˚ angles. No curves, odd numbers, or anything out of place.

Is this a symptom of OCD?

i also think it would be difficult to differentiate between asperger's and OCD symptoms. I think a good way to think about it is, if things are not symmetrical or even numbered, then what? are you going to freak out? do you do anything to "fix" it? (eg rituals, etc?) because OCD comes in two parts, obsessions and compulsions. the compulsion is the action that you take as a result of the obsession... the obsession would be ok, things are not symmetrical or even, what is going to happen? and the obsession could be anything from im going to die, to im going to get contaminated. if there is no compulsion (eg things are not even, so if i dont count to 50 ten times, i am going to die), then i would lean more toward it being an aspergers symptom.

i think it is ocd, i get this too, everything has to be straight, ornaments, shoes etc and i have this habit of counting things i always have to count things that are grouped together, people, objects and that kind of thing, i tend to get bad with it when im feeling down or anxious, i think its a control issue
