Is it possible to experience only the obsessive intrusive thoughts part of OCD ? Would that still be considered OCD ? What would the disorder look like without the compulsive behaviors ?

Hello there. Well, I have intrusive obsessive compulsive thoughts for sure, though meds have helped a great deal. However, I don't uphold these thoughts with physical actions. I don't know how this stands to the medical world regarding OCD, I imagine it would still be considered OCD really. Hang on in there. XX

I have this. My therapist calls it obsessive anxiety thoughts. They are very intrusive and very annoying, it really does drive me crazy. I would still consider it somewhat OCD you just don't act on it, we just have the thoughts about certain things.

What i experience for example if I see something or experience something that bothers me I repeat it in my mind literally hundreds and hundreds of times, over and over and over. I can't sleep or think straight. It bugs me, it is very intrusive and happens anytime anywhere. These thoughts last weeks or even months until a new thought replaces it and then I obsess over that, and then that becomes repetitive. This is just my experience. Because of this I have been on many medications over the last year and so far not much has helped. I am currently on Topamax and Viibryd.

There is actually a place for this in the psychology world; it's called "Primarily Obsessive OCD, or "Pure-O." It's OCD without the major compulsions. They are called "intrusive/obsessive thoughts" and it is fairly easy to overcome! After going 3 months with Pure-O, when I finally got the courage to tell someone, I healed completely with therapy and medication. The therapy is most important, though, because if you are ever off of medication, you have coping skills to fall back on. The medicine usually prescribed is Prozac, which is an antidepressant but works very, very well with Pure-O. Once relatively hopeless, I am filled with confidence and have a higher ground on anxiety. I am not a doctor or professional in any way, but feel considerably educated on the subject. Feel free to ask me any questions.

I go through periods of time where I will have just the intrusive thinking, or the intrusive thinking mixed with compulsions. It can happen!
