(Trichotillomania).

1) How long does it take to grow the hair? I had a haircut late last month, it grows back (I have recently noticed), in 1 month. So a haircut a month, I guess. But the areas where I have pulled are barely growing. Small hairs. ?

2) Will it grow back? I have read that it can be permanent hair loss?

I was reading, and did read permanent loss is more uncommon than regrowth. Read it's dependant on the individual and extent of damage to the follicles. Growth could be slower than in undamaged follicles and there's a chance color may be different, but to me, in my mind, may depend a bit on age when stopping the pulling of your hair. I'm certainly not a doctor nor expert, but say I, in my 40's pulled hair, it wouldn't surprise me to grow gray/white, kwim?

Have you found any support groups? Also read it can feel very isolating which makes recovery harder. Sounds like your hair is coming through?

I notice that there are two different ends. There is one that has an end that has a small circle or brown thing. I don't know if that is a root or not.
Then there is another one that is a crease, and it is the same color as my hair. (Black.)

No red ones, like some people reported. Which said means permanent loss.

Also, I am a teenager.

But yeah, the hair is growing back. But I want to pull though. :/

I am glad though, that the pulling has decreased, but it seems like now, I am a little stressed, and that can cause me to pull more.

What coping strategies do you have to resist the urge?

It's hard to not pull, I used to stand and look in the mirror, find any hairs that didn't feel right and pull them out one at a time with tweezers
Possible trigger:

I saw a fantastic therapist in 2008/2009 who helped me through my last OCD flare up. I managed to stop pulling then and I've not started again since, though tbh I've swapped pulling out the broken, tufty hairs that feel out of place with picking at the permanently thickened areas of scalp But at least my hair has mostly grown back. My hairstylist is great, he says he has seen it regularly over the years and is very supportive, bless him

Hi Spike, My hair-pulling has to do with my eyebrows. I have pulled them all of my life, especially when I'm very anxious. I noticed that after about 10 years of pulling, parts of my eyebrows no longer grew back .

I am working on the computer more, editing certain videos/photos for YouTube in a few years. I use both hands to do it.
But also, (since I am male), when I get haircuts, they are short which makes me pull less.
I know when taking tests at school, sometimes I will pull because it makes me worried, if I fail.

I think since it started to develop, we have used variety of things, and I have been busy with my hands. I still want to, but that is decreasing. Mild Trichotillomania, I think. ?
