I've had OCD for forever but have had some improvement over the years. I managed to get over trichotillomania when I was younger (although occasionally if I'm not thinking I begin to pull my hair out again) and my dermatillomania has seem some good improvement in that I've minimized the places I do it. I used to have an obsession with symmetry where anything that happened to one side of my body had to happen to the other, but that has improved as well. There are very few I still do regularly and they all fall back to this same pattern: repetition.
I guess I feel as if I'm going to make a mistake or something, but I repeat everything constantly. I press the button to lock my car at least six times (which is wearing it out at least six times as fast), I run back up to my apartment at least three times to lock my door every morning, and there are these clickers we use in my classes that I press the answer 20 times each time. I know in my head that, logically, I don't need to do it so many times but I just can't stop myself. While it makes sense to be precautious, this compulsion is not useful. Anyone have any advice on how to work on this? I'm sure someone here has had this same OCD. |

I have. I even went so far as repeating everything I said out loud, under my breath. I'm sure that fits into OCD somewhere. On the other part, the rechecking of locks, the oven, lights, etc I finally just decided if I wasn't sure the first time then I wouldn't be sure the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time either. So far I haven't burned the house down and I forget to lock the back door rarely. So does almost everyone
