Since I can remember I have been an anxious person (even as a child). Now I take meds for that but even with them, I feel like they act only superficially and deep inside I'm still worrying about a lot of things. Recently I was told I have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder though I don't do repetitive things. I instead have repetitive thoughts about hurting myself and sometimes I cannot think of anything else and end up doing them. Can this be considered as OCD? If an anti-psychotic medication (Risperdal) helps me very well with the thoughts and the compulsion, then it means I'm also schizophrenic? I know these questions should be made to my psychiatrist, but I would really like to hear other opinions...

I think it could be OCD, I am on an anti psychotic (Geodon) and it helps some with my obsessive thought patterns. If you are concerned then you should bring this up with your doctor or T, I bring these kind of issues up all the time.

Obsessive thoughts can be symptoms of an obsessive-compulsive disorder. So can worrying about a diagnosis!

Doctors use medications like Risperdal for many disorders, not just psychosis or other things for which they are primarily prescribed. So prescribing it for you does not necessarily mean the doctor thinks you are psychotic. These diagnoses are not very definitive, I think. Your problems may overlap several categories.

Maldosan,
Hey! I have OCD, the kind that my thoughts are my obsessions and compulsions. Realize that OCD is a disorder on the end of the spectrum of anxious disorders. I understand your pain! I take a few different meds., but I do take Risperdal for sleep and I'm not psychotic. Just becaue you take Risperdal DOES NOT mean you have schizophrenia -- I actually hear it being prescribed for anxiety like yours more often. Do you see a therapist? It's great that you see a psychiatrist, but a therapist is the one who can work with you on your OCD behaviors and educate you about them. If you need to talk, feel free to PM me. I haven't met many people with the kind of OCD that we have. Best of wishes to you!

You're right, my problem is OCD and Risperdal is prescribed to me to stop my obsessive thoughts and not because I'm psychotic. I discussed it with my doctor and he told me so... thank you Which is the right diagnose?
